What do you guys think about DreamHost. Especially that they offer now outstanding hosting plans by price/possibilities

the biggest discount is actually $110.16. I found the code today...i need to try it.

Then tell us which one and for what plan

anirudh90: There's no such thing as a $110.16 code. Browse around and you'll find out why. $97 is max dreamhost offers.

Hosts who offer a lot of bandwith/space oversell. Personally, it is quite unethical to oversell and is not a good way to run a business. Overselling makes sites load really slow and the servers less stable. If anyone wants a reliable host that actually cares about them, they should stay away from hosts like godaddy and dreamhost. The reason they oversell is because most people do not use all the extra bandwith and space. For those of you who dont know, overselling is when hosts advertise more then they have allocated per server.

I can echo this. I just signed up with Dreamhost and have had the dns servers go down (though quickly resolved) and now I am having my second problem with their mail servers...I am quickly growing disenchanted, even with the <Removed -Staff> coupon...I need to not worry about these things and worry about getting traffic and members to my site...I hope they don't suck forever...

Guys, I think we all know they have a referral program that you can create your own promo codes and offer up to a $97 discount. Don't be posting the coupon codes as it's the same thing as posting your referral link. ;)

All affiliate codes have been removed from this thread. :tri:

Read there blog lol..

I would say they arn't going to last long if the owner flew to Boston to get his name in a plaque when they reached 200,000 domains.

I've been hosting with them for ABOUT 2 months now. For 22.95/year for 20GB space and 1TB transfer

Dreamhost will only limit you by CPU minutes, NOT bandwidth.
MY first month I signed up as a joke, and had the servers at the college I go to uploading 250MB ZIPs for 3 days, and topped the space out at 20.928GB of space used. Then had the servers download them all for a few days, and topped out at 1.009TB of bandwidth used. I got no overage fees and my account wasn't terminated. So it's for real.

I've had a total of 19 minutes of downtime in two months, and that was from the snowstorm recently.

However, their email support is ridiculously lacking. Questions take about 3+ days to be answers --_-- But I do enjoy having free reign of their server with SSH XD
AVGLOAD ('cat /proc/avgload') shows about 1.9% on CPU and 1.6% on RAM. And there are tons of accounts on it. But there's only ever 2 users on (ssh or FTP) (using a who)
The CPU stats are 4 2.8Ghz XEONS with 4GBs RAM. A pretty hefty Server!

A copy of an SSH session with the info on it.

Aside for mostly shoddy support, the price can't be beat for what you get I'm pretty confident in my skills for the most part, so I can solve most things by myself. It's just annoying when I have a question and it takes 51 hours to be answered --_--
I'm pretty happy with the server and the stability.

Then again, I'm on Avalon, another users experience might be different on a different server.

I wouldn't sign up with them, have only heard bad things. Some scripts dont run correctly and they use their own control panel. You may want to check out http://webhostingjury.com, to find a good host!

Dreamhost's control panel takes a bit of getting used to, but it's better than any other I've used.
