Is there a future for those kind of extentions?

I mean do you think in the future after all TLDs are saturated .game, .shop etc will already become the next fad ?:)

Be glad you didn't buy too many. I've seen people buy 50+ before they realized that they weren't actual domains.

Amen - I remember a fellow in the chat room one night :'( Crying the Blues about buying that many ..... Pretty sure he didn't get his :$: back :(

Good Luck ~ and Sorry you found out this way ;)

With support built-in to the major browsers, a qualified "possibly".. but these new.net extensions have been around for several years at least and we still haven't seen widespread support or acceptance.. so, in a word, no...

To be honest I am not sure if I will get my money back. They want proof of the conversation I had with the support about the domains but I have no copy. But then its quite simply if I had know that about the domains I would never had regged them in the first place, why else would I ask for my money back as soon as I found out?

You could try PMing "REGFLY" here.. he may be able to help... just don't get your hopes up. It's more your "fault" in a sense than Registerfly's.. you need to read the fine print.

I still wish they'd discontinue offering those ext's tho...

well the thing is, that I should have read the TOS, right? But should they have told me what they did? If they had given me the correct info this thread wouldn't be here.

Check this out, this is a transcript of a conversation I had with one of their support members. What do you think?

could you just help me with something? Are the new domains such as .game TLD's?
Darrell: Yes.
Darrell: >club, .game, etc are .net domains
colinbehr: ok, thanks. Are they ICANN approved names though?
colinbehr: ?
Darrell: yes, they are.
colinbehr: and are plugins are required to view the domains?
Darrell: No, the admin must have the plugins, clients can see with or without a plugin.

I have attached a screen host of the conversation.

Quite frankly I am disguested at the way in which they have treated me. They will not get away with this so easily.

Wow, that is a flat out lie. New.Net domains are not ICANN approved domains.

yes I know. They can't get away with this. I encourage people to not use them anymore. Any company that lies like that is just donwright bad.

Im not happy, and I won't rest until I get a refund. Does any one want to help me do a press release if they don't?

no need for a press release. How much in total did you spend with them on these types of "domains" (be careful what you call them in future conversations. if you call them domains, the any subsequent actions by you may be hindered because they are NOT domains, but if you view them as such...).

Anyways, finding a lawyer to rep you will be difficult at best. However, federal regulations for fraud are stringent and the FCC and ICANN have both been cracking down on this type of stuff.

Ask them if they losing their ICANN Endorsement would hinder their business, because according to FCC and ICANN regulations, that may just happen if you push the issue. Ask them, will it cost them more to refund your money or to lose ICANN?
also, don't waste time with a CSR anymore, speak to management and above only.

Really I don't think you have much of a legal case. The chat you posted above was made after you had already purchased the names. I mean they didn't misrepresent the names to get you to buy them, right?

-RJ-, I see no dates on that chatlog. It could have been made at any time.

It is irregardless though. if ICANN and the FCC finds out their marketing these at TLD's that are ICANN approved with no need for a plugin... it is fraud. thats the ace in the hole.

the hand he should play is: Want me to file fraud charges or would you rather refund my money?

I do not think you will get a refund but the conversation shows that the support dept. have a huge problem if they donยดt know the difference between new.net domains and ICANN approved domains.

It is blatant fraud. I was lied to. I will speak to them about it now (like was suggested (management and above only))

just a qucik update, it is impossible to get through to anyone. "Please wiat 12 hours sir for a response" Well, I had to wait 72 hours for my last response. ive put myself out enough for me....

in fact, that Darrel support staff, is actually a manager!!

Dear Zeeble:

I am not currently practicing, but I studied law and worked in the field for a while. You should see a major law firm to check the possibility of filing a class action against this company. You may get huge punitive judgement against them.

If you have proof of the chat with the sales person you posted here, then it can be used to prove their criminal intent to defraud. I disagree with RJ who thinks that you do not have legal case since your chat was atfer the contract, since New.net needs to provide much clearer and obvious information/notice/warning regarding their product, since there is a reasonable defect involved in their product. Your very questioning may be considered as evidence of their deliberate confusion, and their engagement in double-speak, which was intended to misinform you, the customer.

Peace,
Edip

You may be forgetting that Registerfly has a potential defense relating to "reasonable expectations" that the person purchasing the domain can be reasonably expected to both see and understand the information presented on the site prior to the purchase (IMO).

However, considering what they told me, it is reasonable to think that I would not be expected to read what I though I already knew, right?

and most big ISP's such as AOL and Tiscali already support them....
