IMO, these will never be worth anything until support is built-in to the major browsers and the SE's start indexing them... these new.net ext have been around for years and have still not caught on.

Perhaps if they driopped the reg price to $3.99 where people might speculate in them but ATM they are nothing more than a worthless curiosity. Most people don't even know they exist.

site:.game - 98 results
site:.com - 1,650,000,000 results

If you look at any site: .new.net domains you'll see similar and will notice that all of the results are just the domains themselves, not inside pages. imo this is why these are worthless.

but if most ISP's support them, then whats the problem?

Someone applied last year to sponsor .xxx

.xxx is also a new.net domain.

If its approved, the new.net .xxx holders will probubly have to hand-over/give up their domains as they arnt/were never approved in the first place.

I believe this would mean that this plug-in wouldnt be allowed to be used logically cause if it was it would go to the new.net .xxx site and not the true site.

So based on that I can see all new.net names folding, no plug-in allowed, no .game .xxx .shop etc... they wont work without the plug-in.

:bingo: My point exactly ~ Zeeble , folks in here are really trying to help .... If you use the Search function within this forum on new.net or some of these extensions , etc .... You'll see how many times it has been brung up - I've had to ask the question myself just because some of the names are so appealing. Never reg'd any and the more I learn about the Tech side of the internet (Been playing with domains for a good while) I'm glad I listened :)

Most ISP´s does not support new.net domains. New.net domains are as mentioned many times worthless and unofficial. You will not be able to run any serious site from a new.net domain. I am also sure that new.net domains have huge problems with search engines and SEO.

There is a reason why the "good" domains such as download.game were available...

Are Tiscali and AOL running a worldwide ISP oligopoly?

I do not like how some registration companies (like RegisterFly for one) list these phoney domains right next to legitimate domain extensions. It just creates confusion among those who buy them.
I feel the same way. I like RegFly, but I sure wish they would quit offering those.

Zeeble, there are needles-in-the-haystack, diamonds-in-the-rough, and plenty of hidden treasures out there in the domain world that others have overlooked. I applaud anyone who feels strongly they have the ability to find such things. It can be done. However, (like everybody else here,) I can tell you that these things are located in real legitimate name spaces, not found in wacky new.net pseudo extensions. Those aren't new either. They've been around quite a while. Every few months somebody "discovers" them, and is convinced they found the fountain of domain youth. Sadly, it's just an old dried-up shallow pond that was never able to sustain any life to begin with.

It's honest sincere advice you are getting from people here. Good luck.

Not ICANN accredited
Think about this, lets say I'm in a library
chances are that they won't have the new.net plugin installed
therefore people cannot even reach your site at all
Major traffic you'll be losing

ok, Im looking into getting my money back. Because ultimatly RegFly lied, they told me a) no plugins needed b) IANA and ICANN valid names c) that they are not subdomains and are tld's

Maybe worth asking, though I don't think you'll get your money back. They have a little '-info-' link next to the new.net listing that explains what they are (kinda).

Be glad you didn't buy too many. I've seen people buy 50+ before they realized that they weren't actual domains.

Good luck at getting your money back, but I don´t think you should expect anything. The problem is that RegisterFly has not done anything wrong, you ordered a service which was non-refund able and they provided you with the service.

It is mentioned on the site that they are new.net domains and you have to use a plugin but they should make it more clear, I guess that many first time buyers will get the impression that new.net domains are "real" domain.

yes that may be the case, but the fact still remains that I was misled, that is simply not acceptable and I have informed them that I am willing to take further steps to recover my money, the thing is that I paid via paypal so I can always file for a refund with them.

And he never did...... [book closes]

Sorry for your treatment at the hands of reg fly Zeeble.

But if you think about it though, theres nothing to stop anyone else doing as they have....

Lets just say Im selling the .donut .egg and .business extensions..... Oh, and lets also say the .game extension also. Yeah, you heard me, the .game extension... Now, you buy [anything] .business e.g. from me and I willingly sell it to you... Perfect. However its not www.[anything].business its actually www.[anything].business.mydomain.com and I send you a plug in from my site in order for your browser to recognise that anything typed in with this extension be re-routed me to me.

Now the beauty of this scheme is as follows.

You pay for something that you never really own
Every domain ever sold has the capacity (or at least potential) to have every other domain ever sold as its sub domain
I get control of your browser together with whatever spyware and malware I want to send you in the furture as a so called update to the plug in.
I get tonnes more traffic than i ever did before thanks to your (and others) sub domain/s :cough: I meant domain/s...

The problem is: Anyone else in the entire world could also launch the same extensions and trade the same names as the ones already sold. D-: What this means in your case is I could also sell download.game to one of my customers and he too might then (for a while) jump through hoops and shout it from the roof top... The race would then be on who could get the most plug ins installed on peoples browsers. My guess is, he'd get about 20 and i'd get 12... i.e. Zero traffic from now until the end of time...

And the moral of the story, if something seems to good to be true..........
