Anybody pick up a .pro name with the promotion?

I'm taking a chance on two;
Portfolio.pro
and
Data.pro

Might just keep Portfolio.pro... :|

".PRO" is a TLD that was just reduced in price, and also had restrictions lifted allowing average people to register. You can read more here - www.encirca.com

Golf.pro
Tennis.pro

Those would have been nice to grab.

CRITICAL CRITICAL- YOU DON’T OWN iT!!:

http://www.encirca.biz/html/proforwarding.shtml

"• The public Whois will list "EnCirca ProForwarding" as the Registrant contact and you as the Admin contact."

YADA YADA MORE NOT GOOD:

"Domains maintained by EnCirca's ProForwarding service must use EnCirca's nameservers."

Looks like a low probability of recovery and less of a premium to me.

Looks like you'll have no problem. I talked with Encirca President Tom Barrett again this morning and asked him about the nameserver situation since several people have successfully switched them to their own nameservers and have their sites resolving properly. He told me it had been his understanding that the site was set up not to allow a nameserver change but since it is allowing them he said they probably wouldn't enforce the rule (he was going to talk to his engineers about it today). So you may be home free using your own nameservers which would simplify things a great deal.

Even if you had to use their nameservers you can still host the domain anywhere you want by changing the A and CName fields at Encirca to point to your host. He said their intent is to give you a working domain for no more than the $49 reg fee the first year ($99 annually thereafter). You do not to have to pay anything for the two third level domains that have to be associated with a second level domain. They automatically register two for you (that you won't even know about) to meet the registry requirement. Since the domain stays in their name and you are only listed on the Admin contact, they also provide the license required by the registry for .pro domains.

I'm going to take a pass on investing in .pro this go-round, and cherry pick the good ones when you all let them drop next year. ;)

I could not have said it better!

Duke, thanks for the horse's mouth info ;)
Cherrypickers and snowbirds, best of luck.
There were some that would have been A++, but they seem to be long gone at this point. Now to see when DNjournal announces the first .pro for 5 figs ;)

There are still some good ones but I am still debating the value proposition. I wouldn't take one unless I am sure I will develop it. I see -RJ- wound up succumbing to the lure though. He took one of the ones I have on a short list I am considering. Now I will have to wait until he lets it drop next year to get it! :)

That sneak. He said he was going to pass on them.

Damn, domain fever gets the best of everytbody.

Well...thats the irony in domain speculation....if it takes off there won't be any cherry picking to be had next year.....and if it doesn't, good and even excellent keyword names will be dropped, but won't be considered "cherries" anymore !! :|

<< Guilty as charged. :red:

I was really turned off on .PRO when Encirca's site seemed to describe these as glorified forwarding domains and decided not to register a bunch of good ones I had picked out early on. But after hearing another NP'r say he was able to change the nameservers to his own (per their TOS or not), I had to give it a try.

I see some rationale here...but isn't this just a matter of scale here...I mean you do have to outlay $50 for a year, $150 for two, and so on....but then again, if you have a strong name, say like insurance.pro or even a 2-worder like personalinjury.pro (neither is mine) would they not be worth in at least high-3 or low-4 figures to a professional group in that area....development is always nice and helpful but not necessary for saavy speculation..... :imho:

As long as their are renewal fees, there will always be good drops. :)

So there are in .coms as well....and most of us know quite well what it takes to catch a good drop in a valuable or even a "viable" extension like .info and .us....!!

Not necessarily, especially in an extension they are not familiar with. You may never see a buyer emerge at those levels even for the best domains. I happen to own PersonalInjury.ws and it costs me under $9 a year. No one has ever offered to buy it but I still like it for the keyword. With development it could provide a nice return. The same keywords in .pro will cost ten times that much each year though I don't see it as being any more valuable at all. This is what I mean about the .pro value proposition. Neither extension will get any type in traffic. You will have to develop either and promote it to generate value. You can find many good keywords in obscure extensions so why pay 1,000% more annually for one over another since both will require the same kind of work (unless that one in a million buyer for tertiary extensions turns up - not a good thing to bank on IMO)?

Still at this early stage there were and still are some words/terms in .pro that are hard to find in any extension on earth and those may well be worth paying the premium for if you are going to develop them.

OK, first EnCirca .PRO push established! Was easy (and free indeed), and took about 5 mins after first figuring it all out.

Now, at first, I'd entered the gaining party's (= customer) username but that did not work. Then I got the correct info. You push using the Customer handle. How does the gaining party find that 'handle' (and then supplies it to you):

Once logged into his/her account at [ MyAccount Home ] screen, see the Left menu, there choose 'customers', then 'list customers', and then at the bottom there's a chart that lists one's Customer handle, which looks like: CUST-1234 ('1234' is replaced by his/her actual Customer handle number)
