I'm taking a chance on two;
Portfolio.pro
and
Data.pro

Might just keep Portfolio.pro...

Is Encirca really the only place doing this?

I had Host.pro in my shopping cart today,a click away from checking out..I figured it was probably worth the $49.99,but then I saw it's another $49.99 if you want to forward it or use it in anyway..not to mention $99 a year afterwards..Despite the fantastic name I had my doubts whether any end users existed for a .pro,and if they do,would they be willing to put up with those outrageous fees?
I didn't buy it,but when I checked back tonight someone had.Oh well,I hope they make some $$ off it.

Its not a bad deal if the "keyword".pro would make development sense. .pro works well with a lot of terms, and unlike .biz which has a somewhat "just out to make money" impression. The biggest drawbacks to this extension are the strict requirements, the 2nd level non-availability, and the steep cost. Encirca appears able to do something about the first two, so all of a sudden .pro becomes a viable TLD for widespread development.

However ... I seem to be having a problem with checkout. Tried 2 different cards, and encirca just times out. Maybe they can't handle the landrush?

I finally settled for four .pro names - 2 keywords within my industry, and 2 for possible development. Still encirca times out. So I don't know if my orders were successful.

Earlier today I tried to reg "name.pro" and some others (which at the time showed as 'available'; they have corrected it now) and even though it seemed like the order went through fine, I got emails from EnCirca a short while later telling me that those names weren't reg'd successfully because of having been reserved by the registry. And they'd issued me a credit for the 'failed names' back to my c.card.

Doesn't that contradict Dillpup? The statement that without the additional $50 you can't forward or use it in any way. Thus it's still a $100 p/y domain and they have only opened it up to "Non-Pros".

EnCirca's ProForwarding service allows you to use a second level .pro domain for email and website hosting just as you would with a .com domain name. Included with the service is "cloaked" web forwarding to any web address you provide. You may also just park the domain with EnCirca.

It appears that if you can show 2 registrations at the 3rd level (med.pro, cpa.pro, etc.), then your 2nd level domain can be upgraded to a fully-resolving domain. Seems like an odd requirement to me, but hey whatever works for them.

Its $50 during the promo, but they repeatedly say that the price will go up to $98 upon renewal. These are very steep fees, but again as *nothing* for a real development project.

I'm going to take a pass on investing in .pro this go-round, and cherry pick the good ones when you all let them drop next year.
