What would happen to dot com domain names if google launches .goog and begins promoting their own .goog extension domain names?

google has billions of dollars to help launch .goog worldwide

and if google allows all .goog domain names to be listed on top of google search engines before any dot com domain names

and if all .goog owners will get more money for google adsense program

basically, all .goog owners will get first class vip treatment from google

what do you guys think would happen to dot com domain names???

the original post misunderstands the google business model which is to produce effective search results and thereby generate advertising revenue...the suggested premise does not support this.

This guy hit the nail on the head. Their revenue relies on being the best search engine, according to who gives the most relevant search results. Favouring it's own extension would give far different results and everyone would go elsewhere.

as of today, google has a market cap of $145 Billion...not million...BILLION

i think google can use their money to promote and market the .goog extension and easily beat out the dot com extension

and this will cause to drive the dot com prices lower and lower until it becomes worthless...i say less than 5 years and dot com would be worthless

This whole "concept" is laughable. Google wouldn't/couldn't just launch an extension willy-nilly. Even if they could, they wouldn't give .goog (.go would be better BTW) more prominant placement in their search engine... it'd be counter-productive (and evil, which is against Google's motto).

Back on topic, this whole topic is pointless. I could write a crazy hypothetical about anything, which is all the OP did, but that doesn't mean that there is a chance of it becoming reality. People are actually addressing this topic as if there is some substance to it, when there is none.
