I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

I haven't read through this whole thread, but does anyone see any value in the .ca extension? For instance I just hand registered two .ca domains which I think have decent potential:

ButterCream.ca
Satchel.ca

well... like for most extensions (but not all) if you have the right keyword.. then .ca can be a good idea... and profit.

however, imo handregging .ca names.. unless its some good freshly expired handreg (not very common)... is just too much a gamble... imo

These were acquired through expireddomains.net, however I am not sure how long they had been sitting there for.

I know this has been asked before, but who in the hell is:

2537244 ONTARIO INC.

is that POOL?

If I recall from the past, it is Pool. I could be mistaken though. They don’t catch as much as they use to. I believe it was malls.ca they caught at one point which went for 5 figures if I remember correctly. Last time I checked, it’s still parked.

I'm 99.99% sure its not pool. Pool hasn't caught a single domain since the fury switch.

There is definitely something up about this entity, and I can remember speaking with the CIRA last year about a few things, and then casually mentioning this Registrar (and how they used to be listed on the CIRA page and later deleted), why there was no Phone or Email contact info, and if they had any idea who they were.

Suddenly the guy on the phone went silent, then got angry and told me "you don't need to know who they are" and there was a "good reason they were no longer on the CIRA Registrars page". I asked again why there was no Phone or Email contact info and he said "If you've registered domains through them, you'd know"

Okay.... Really weird stuff.

You can see they used to be on the CIRA page by searching Google.

Registrar List - CIRA

To contact a CIRA Certified Registrar to register or renew a .CA domain name ... egate DOMAINS Inc. Phone: +1.8884048328 ... 2537244 ONTARIO INC. Phone:.

404 in the phone number  Love it!

That's not their phone number, it's from the Registar in front of them on the list.

There was never any Phone or Email contact info for 2537244 ONTARIO INC., and it looks like that old list of 115 CIRA Registrars has been scrubbed off the Internet.

Before the CIRA cleared most of the dodgy TBR happenings, there were numbered companies regularly taking part that had been legally dissolved years before, and some of them were under investigation by the CRA. :xf.eek:

Could it be Sibername?

Its not sibername either, they publish their own tbr results and strangely, the only domain listed by sibername that doesn't have a registrar associated with it is sustainablebalance.ca which is registered by the mysterious 2537244. Weirdly, sibername only lists a part of the full TBR results - just 41 of 85 domains. They did list all 11 of their domains caught during TBR (plus one registered post TBR, dev0ps.ca, weird again..). So anyways, you'd think they'd know their own associated registrars so I say its not sibername.

why does that story not surprise me? Cira employees are pretty good at saying almost nothing - its almost as if they've been trained that way. They always answer your questions in the least helpful most vague and worthless way. Its like everything they do is top secret and they don't want to give anything away that could come back on them in the future.

So, I think 2537244 is not a public drop catcher. They've grabbed about 100+ domains during TBR sessions since start of 2018, about 24 so far in 2019. All of the domains are either developed as an SEO scam (one page sites with crappy content and a link back to one of two main sites they're trying to promote) or they are not yet developed and have no name servers. EVERY one of the domains fits this scenario, none of these domains are going to actual end users. This registrar is CLEARLY using the TBR sessions for personal use only.

For example: http://www.womenbuildtoronto.ca/
This is a typical site. Useless rambling info with a link buried somewhere to one of two websites, either lifeoncredit.ca or creditavenue.ca. Usually the sites show no name/address/phone/contact info, occasionally they do though, but probably random bogus info. On those two main sites it says its a blog run by "Sam" or "Samantha", one says living in Toronto with two kids "sam" and "sarah" and her husband works as a software engineer. The other says living in Ottawa with a kid named "john" and husband "paul" who works for an engineering firm.

SO.... I would venture the following guess. "Paul" is a programmer and either used to, or still does, work for CIRA - running his own little private registrar.

They only catch pretty crappy domains, maybe stuff that has a bit of link juice out there. So you don't have to sweat that they're grabbing really good domains or anything. But you gotta wonder are their rules & regulations about running a registrar & tbr for private use.

I'll have to try and see if any domains are registered to this registrar that were NOT from a TBR...

If you really want to go down the conspiracy path - it's at MYID. I'm just waiting for another auction extension so the conspirator can ask their parents for more money.

If you really, really want to go down the conspiracy path - MYID claims by email that I did not backorder star.ca before the deadline. Therefore I can not participate in the auction.

This is of course patently ridiculous and as of 06:30 Pacific they are not answering the tollfree number on their contact page.

Tick tock.

Don’t they shut the system down so it’s impossible to be late?? If it’s any consolation I’m not in the auction either.

Anyone here in the auction? I’m mighty curious as to what it will go for.

Anyone having a problem getting credit from godaddy for the cira recalled domains?

I have 14 more to get back and they keep telling me the domains are mine, they appear in my account and on some I can even set the name server. Nonetheless it has no effect so we know I don't truly have ownership.

Going on for weeks now and the support team is just clueless, they won't answer me anymore.
