Who would be a good broker for .ca domains? I just don't have the time to find buyers and I have a few premium (in my opinion) domains that I want to try to get rid of.

a few LLL.ca that I get interest on domainnamesales but nothing ever comes of it when I ask for an offer. and some 1 word .ca (voicemail, ground, invoice etc)

Don't be to quick to judge CIBC

Personally I think it is brilliant marketing and a trademark easily protected.

Sorry, but the minute I got that first Simplii email I thought "OMG, I wouldn't even use that stupid name for a small web business" and no amount of subsequent logo manipulation is going to change that.

It just looks cheap, second-rate and low-end for such a big bank.

I own the .ca of this as well and the two dots represent two people.

In the case of simplii it represents different versions of financial symbols.

For .ca I think there is growth for similar domains and I don't mind investing in them.

Sure, but Pride.com is already a LGBT website (and is a key dictionary word worth 6-figures), while Simpli.com is none of these, and is for sale. So I totally agree with your example, but I do not agree with CBIC's decision.

Simply > Simpli > Simplii > Simpliii > Simpliiii > Simpliiiii

Penny smart, pound stupid.

Simply > Simpli > Simplii > Simpliii > Simpliiii > Simpliiiii

Penny smart, pound stupid.

They probably registered a trademark for Simpli with multiple i's

I don't think anyone could simpliii add an i

I respect your opinion but if you look at realter.ca and how the company made up a name realtor.ca and trademarked it, it became very popular and one of the most enforced trademarks in the world.

I personally prefer simplii over CIBC

In my priide.ca case I own all extensions of it and pride has each extension owned by someone else, so it is a unique opportunity to trademark and apply it to a single organization.

These type of domains will become hugely popular in the future

Example....

https://www.freshii.com/ca

One of the fastest growing chains

Again, I am "simply" comparing hipster domains SIMPLI.COM vs SIMPLII.COM and vastly prefer the former to the latter. Nothing more and nothing less.

And I am very familiar with the current trend towards branded prounceables, but trends continually change and back in the day, I can remember people expounding on how "EMDs will continue to be hugely popular" - I don't see anyone clamoring for Diapers.com or Beer.com in 2018.

I can't fathom even asking $50k for that domain - let alone actually receiving it.

Very interesting. Would love to know how the negotiations went.

That's why you always ask: Who am I negotiating with? RBC wouldn't bat an eye at $250k

Loving Simplii .ca
Wonderful brandable.
I don't think much of Ampli.ca, nothing stands out. It would actually be better with the double ii ending.
Lots of "ii's" dropping today.

While of course true, I'm operating under the presumption that RBC is wise enough to engage in a stealth acquisition.

Again, these are the details that would be fantastic to hear about if details of the negotiation are shared.

As far as loyalty sites go is anyone else liking AirKey.ca?
It's in the TBR today. I'm not going for it but I saw it and I immediately thought of a rewards program
"Use our card, it's the key to your next holiday". Shitty slogan but you get the idea.

You never know, they could say "Screw you, I'll just register AMPLII.CA then!" :-P

After @MapleDots post, I guess it's not that bad; I thought they had a product called simpli but opted for simplii.ca to promote it. That would be stupid :)

WHOIS shows the name was registered on 2017/05/30 and wikipedia shows that Simplii was founded on November 1, 2017 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simplii_Financial), so at least they got the order right in this case ;)

CIBC had to rename PC Financial, and during the process one major plus for the Simplii name was its (naturally) unregistered status. $10 (minus a coupon probably) and they had their TM.

I guess that's how the rich get richer.

CIBC likely didnt know that it was unregistered. The typical process is CEO makes decision to rebrand, informs CMO, CMO reaches out to contacts in marketing and branding. Then one of these people handregs 100 names, confabs with the CMO and earns a $25k-$75k consulting fee.

The CMO is who you want to know, because you want them to reach out to you.
