Just an FYI that we've updated our .CA TBR Picks for April 11:

http://www.domainrecap.com/2018/picks/ca-to-be-released-tbr-weekly-picks-for-april-11/

Enjoy, and hopefully you can find something interesting.

Dang!!! Great list... But Iโ€™m torn...

On the one hand itโ€™s very nice of you to do this. But on the other hand, I had researched and put together a list of my own. But why bother if you publicize one before the drop date?

No chance of flying under the radar and picking one up now.... :(

I guess the real winners now will be the drop catch services. ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป

I think it would be awesome if you posted your list 5-15min AFTER the names were dropped... that way anybody who had done the research for themselves would have an opportunity to possibly grab a name and benefit from their own hard work...And your list would benefit those who arenโ€™t willing to put the work in and enjoy feeding on scraps.

Certainly do appreciate the hard work youโ€™re putting into this though...just conflicted on the release of it...

Cheers!

While I appreciate the comments, and as I pick up a few .CA drops from time to time, have had similar feelings, there would really be absolutely no reason to post a TBR Picks list *after* the TBR run.

It would be like posting a Super Bowl prediction 5-15 minutes after the game.

Hmmm.... I think itโ€™s quite a bit different than posting Super Bowl predictions after the game.

You arenโ€™t posting a list of predictions...youโ€™re posting a list of actual events that will be occurring.

Again, your site looks great... you obviously put in a lot of time and hard work and it shows! Also, Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s extremely helpful to many people. :)

Like I say...A cheat sheet is awesome for the lazy domainer. Iโ€™m thinking that by publishing the list prior to drop, it definitely broadens the amount of people that may be shooting for the same name which only benefits the dropcatch companies... any serious domainer will spend the time and find these gems on their own. There still may be competition, and perhaps a drop catch service would be the only way to acquire them, but perhaps the price would not go as high at auction because less people will be bidding on it or another possibility is that you might be able to get a sweet name without a drop catch service... just fly under the radar and grab it because it wasnโ€™t publicized.

Nothing wrong with publishing your list five minutes after drop time. It would still be a great service to the lazy domainerโ€™s. They could pick up the scraps that the serious domainerโ€˜s who did a bit of work and put some time in either missed or didnโ€™t want.

It would make total sense if you offered a drop catch service on your site... I would completely understand the business move of publishing your lists...And Iโ€™m sure you would make even more money than whatever your revenue is from advertisements.

Again, I am not dissing your site at all. I think your site is great. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
It potentially costs me more money... but....well.... Iโ€™ll just leave it at that.

Cheers!
PS... you should really try to get a drop catch service going straight from your site.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Definitely, but this type of thing is not easy, and there is so much belt-tightening right now that the only thing selling are new hole punchers. I would love to link up with a dropcatcher for .CA, but I can't allot the time to set up as a registrar and no one has inquired as to a partnership or sponsorship.

Lots of stuff going on with me right now too, tons of work, selling the house and moving to a snazzy new one, kids got into IB, wife is buying another office (guess who does free IT on weekends?), so by June-July I should be able to devote more time to the site.

I've been having very little success on the drops lately.

MyId seems to be the big winner all around.

Personally I am thinking of drafting a letter to cira that would limit companies like this from snapping up all the choice drops.

To make the system truly fair they have got to limit data base hits by one company/ip address etc.

Went for 3 (including BMS.CA), lost 2 and won 1.

Not really and it's exactly the same as any time sensitive information - who the heck would read it after the event has ended?

My problem with many of these "TBR Registrars who *also* run a Marketplace" is that they are NOT supposed to be buying for resale, only for customers orders, but a lot of their "wins" miraculously appear in their aftermarket listings, many with the same WHOIS. They also have a lot of listings on Flippa and other auction sites.

https://www.myid.ca/domainmarket/

If you want to advise the CIRA of something, do it this way, as Registrars are expressly forbidden to use the TBR drop as a method of building up investment domains.

No love but didn't try...

It was a pretty weak week, but there were a few nice options in there - surprised to get 1 of my 3 with 136 names taken.

Fun Fact: One of our Top Picks (Titillate.ca) went exactly last in 136th spot. :xf.frown:

Yep, that was the other one I lost, but I had BMS.ca first, and MOMS.ca second.

cira is very responsive this hasnโ€™t been going on for years, why have they turned a blind eye to this?

I personally think myid should be investigated, they often catch the top drops and nobody else has a chance. You then think.... ahh someone from their marketplace but they do own a lot of those dropped domains directly.

Even if we complain they will just register the picked up domain in a different name so we cannot really win.

I think there should be a web interface where anyone registered with cira can go to and submit their desire for the dropping domain. A computer at cira's end should then make a random pick as to who gets it, basically like a lottery.

I don't understand why a system that is supposed to be for all Canadians can be dominated by a few companies. It is up to us to be vocal and tell cira how we feel so we can get this changed.

One last thing.....

Currently we have to go through a registrar to get a dropping domain. How long do you think before most registrars do what godaddy does and hog them for themselves? They just give the domain to a made up end user to hide this fact.

PS.... anyone heard of tucows/hover :xf.wink:
So much irregular stuff going on with expiring domains.

I'm at the point where any .com domain I let expire if it sits at go daddy I will give it away for free so it does not hit their expiring auction. Why should they automatically be allowed to profit from me?

Cira has issues and so do any registrars that run auctions, in my humble opinion you should not be allowed to do both.

Iโ€™ve noticed that a few excellent names that myid won a few months ago and went to auction still isnโ€™t resolving to any site which makes me thing something is a little fishy there. I mean if I won a 2 letter .ca months ago, I would want something on there. And not just one name I know of a couple for sure.

Yeah, remember CP.CA that sold for God knows how much? Still not resolving.

Makes you wonder about these "auctions".

I donโ€™t recall the CP one but thatโ€™s another example. YO and YR are the same. Not resolving. I canโ€™t imagine all these buyers backed out of the auction and didnโ€™t pay. If that was the case, Iโ€™m sure myid would either re-auction it or sell to the next top bidder.
