Sorry, but the minute I got that first Simplii email I thought "OMG, I wouldn't even use that stupid name for a small web business" and no amount of subsequent logo manipulation is going to change that.

It just looks cheap, second-rate and low-end for such a big bank.

Sure, but Pride.com is already a LGBT website (and is a key dictionary word worth 6-figures), while Simpli.com is none of these, and is for sale. So I totally agree with your example, but I do not agree with CBIC's decision.

I respect your opinion but if you look at realter.ca and how the company made up a name realtor.ca and trademarked it, it became very popular and one of the most enforced trademarks in the world.

I personally prefer simplii over CIBC

In my priide.ca case I own all extensions of it and pride has each extension owned by someone else, so it is a unique opportunity to trademark and apply it to a single organization.

Again, I am "simply" comparing hipster domains SIMPLI.COM vs SIMPLII.COM and vastly prefer the former to the latter. Nothing more and nothing less.

And I am very familiar with the current trend towards branded prounceables, but trends continually change and back in the day, I can remember people expounding on how "EMDs will continue to be hugely popular" - I don't see anyone clamoring for Diapers.com or Beer.com in 2018.

After @MapleDots post, I guess it's not that bad; I thought they had a product called simpli but opted for simplii.ca to promote it. That would be stupid

WHOIS shows the name was registered on 2017/05/30 and wikipedia shows that Simplii was founded on November 1, 2017 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simplii_Financial), so at least they got the order right in this case

CIBC likely didnt know that it was unregistered. The typical process is CEO makes decision to rebrand, informs CMO, CMO reaches out to contacts in marketing and branding. Then one of these people handregs 100 names, confabs with the CMO and earns a $25k-$75k consulting fee.

The CMO is who you want to know, because you want them to reach out to you.

If you notice they blocked off the cubicles but have not gotten rid of them. I predict PC financial will re-launch very similar to Canadian Tire Financial.

The simplii domain was meant to appeal to millenials and I can assure you the decision had to go through the voting process etc.

You will also notice that simplii.ca does indeed forward over to simplii.com which is an indicator that the division will be expanded to the US or even other countries.

Like I said, a certain portion of the population will think this domain is progressive and cool. I thought it was funny for about a day until I realized how nicely it could be branded.

I have to give credit.... it got me to re-think my portfolio a bit and I'm very glad I did now that other companies like freshii have come out.

I agree with you. While I'm really fond of Maple's Priide, I'm not as sold on the ii in simplii. It's my opinion that one would've sufficed. As always, it's contextual.

I was thinking more along the lines of dirty jokes, memes, etc... not actual porn, but not sure about ads and stuff like that. I have 4sex.ca and hate to admit it but it's not a domain I am proud of. I haD second thoughts when I purchased it because I have a very business like website and I often considered hiding the domain. All in all I think the .ca market is probably pretty weak for sex domains but one beacon would be the exchange rate. If one hypes that membership rates are in CAD and charged inside Canada then a site might pick up some traffic.

That said.... does anyone buy memberships or anything from these sites?
