Who gives a f**k what Schwartz says
Donuts makes a good point. Using a .tv for a vlog seems more of an endorsement for NewG's versus being a .com maximalist.
Domain extensions have meaning to specific niches and industries. We are seeing it with country codes as well as with the NewG's. Examples being .AI for artificial intelligence, .co for company, .gg for good game and of course .tv for video content.
Disclaimer: I invest in all extensions including the most sought after, .com.
I don't disagree with that. I was writing from a domain investor perspective as well. Maybe it's not the same as your perspective, but it's still a perspective.
It can be debated, but IMO Donuts has definitely failed in their marketing efforts. Their biggest failure was comparing to .com by calling NewG's "non .com." They would have been better off promoting their attributes instead of trying to degrade .com.The question is; why Donuts didn't jump into hotdog debate year/s ago but now*... when in need to sell/promote own agenda - premium domains (800.000) + going one step forward by using well known person in a hope to attract more domainers (now they need them?). imo

I don't recall any mention of endorsement. I think the point that they were making is that if you look at special purpose country TLDs, like .tv, they work across the dot in the way that Rick.tv elegantly expresses his personal brand. They were saying you can do a similar thing with new gTLDs with the two sides of the dot in a unified way expressing the idea you want to promote. The .com (or any other) extension adds meaning in some contexts but not in others. If it is RedCross it definitely adds to have the extension .org. If it is for a large financial enterprise the .com is almost essential. But if you are doing a family website (one of their examples in the series), a .com does not add to the domain name any additional information, and therefore is not elegant design.Exactly, and buying a 2-letter ccTLD has absolutely nothing in common with endorsing new gTLDs.
I was trying to make the point that the extension, both cc's and NewG's, can have a meaning besides being generic.cctlds used as gtlds have very little in common with ngtlds
Alright, you don't include it, but some big budget esports groups are building on it.I wouldn't include gg there yet

This is a domain investor forum,
So I write from a domain investor perspective.
They heavily counted on domainers to do the marketing job for them - for free + taxing them quietly with a very high renewals. Good job!

Totally agree with this opinion. Backfire or not the goals is to tell folks is working. But on specific topic of the tweet series, even though it may well backfire, the logic in the series of statements is strong in my opinion. They are respectful and give credit to the great insights Rick offers domain investors through blog, tweets and video series. They also acknowledge his incredible success as a domain investor. They then draw a parallel between the elegant design of the name Rick.tv and what is possible to similarly do in new domain extensions.
