I just had a debate about whether Linux is more secure than Windows! This person is a complete Microsoft-fanboy. In his opinion, if it is not made by Microsoft it is obviously terrible, and if it is free it is probably out to steal your bank details also.
At the end of it, he still didn't accept that Linux was more secure because, in his words, "Linux is open-source, so anyone can see the code. Only experts selected by Microsoft can see the code of Windows.", that is the reason usually given for why Linux is more secure!
And to make it worse, he is a Microsoft alpha tester. This gives him an irritating air of superiority. Especially when he had the cheek to say "Internet Explorer 8 is brilliant. Everyone will switch to use it from their silly alternatives when it stable.". Excuse me? For one thing, I like Opera. It does exactly what I need. IE doesnt. And another, I can't switch! I use Linux! Oh, wait, that means I don't count amongst 'everyone' does it?

Honestly its a matter of opinion. If you know what you are doing you can make either one "more secure" than the other. On top of that FireFox owns!

It is a matter of opinion, and I respect the opinions of people who have tried Linux and prefer Windows. I am not a Linux-fanboy, though I do greatly prefer Linux and recomend it to anyone asking me how to make their computer run better.
I just can't stand someone who makes stupid remarks (if Linux is so insecure, why do most servers use Linux?) without at least trying the alternatives.

i'm sure that different aspects of different operating systems are safer, but i find that the biggest threat to a computer is usually its user (i.e., opening attachments from randoms). no os (nowadays) crash out of nowhere or is inherently more prone to security flaws really.

at the end of the day, it's just all a matter of opinions, but I hate people who shovel up their opinions and make one eat em, little they did know that people have brains to think for themselves, but a matter of discussion of features interests me as well.

LOOOOOOL

We have now 2008 and IEX 6 is still not stable at all...is he talking about the future, maybe the year of 2024??

But i have to add, the biggest prob with linux still is the "user" part with it...and i know what i am talking about....if you wanna hear it or not , windows is more "SEU" friendly(PM me for the SEU explanation :)

Even Linux is getting better and better.....and guess what...i believe mickey soft just shot themself in their foot with bringing up Vista....so more shares for linux :)

So, we will see.......

Cheers,

Frank
