Linux...didn't know where to put this topic...please move if not in right place

I got linux ubuntu(on a disc,from a magazine)
I convinced my dad to let me try it,
but he said only on the F drive as it has about 25 gb and c dirve is full(10 gig aproxx)
anyways is it possible to have windows and linux running on one hard drive, and linux running one drive(F drive)

if it is are there any tutorials...
Thank You

well Here is what i would do ...if you are just wanting to try linux. Get a copy of VMware it will allow you to run both at the same time. linuxiso.org is a great site to get info on alot of linux builds. Also if you wanted you could partition a certain amount of space on your drive to be able to boot either linux or windows. Personally if you have never used linux I would go for the copy of VMware if you are just looking to check it out a little. Or just spend a little money for a used P3 and just format it with LInux

it is possible but remember linux doesnt deal with c: drive, f: drive so windows partitions are no use to it.

so what youd have to do is delete the f drive partion then install linux on the free drive space.

VMWare with a virtual disk is the way to go if you just want to try things out. A virtual disk which is just a large file on your F drive and VMWare is a Windows app so you donโ€™t have to fiddle with anything. You can get a trial version of VMWare thatโ€™s good for a month or something.

If you want a free 100% open source solution have a look at coLinux

if you got the linux on a disk from a magazine, chances are it is a "live disk". This means it will run from the disk (like knoppix linux). Does it say this?

it ain't a live disk.. accidentally reformatted my whole pc... I tryed linux,it worked... but no where to set up and internet connection so I installed xp...
So I went from Windows 2000(slow with all my files) to linux(fast with not much stuff) to Windows XP(fast with not much stuff)

... :(

if you need a live cd, send me a private message and i can mail you Gentoo Live! or even kopixx, i used to sell them on ebay :) There not REAL there downloaded and put on a cd, some people dont have a great internet connection.

or if you check out ebay look for linux builds, and you can get like 8 cds for less than $10 via paypal.

should be able to do so as long as you know about the "odd behavior" & language of linux;)
