I stumbled upon their automated appraisal service some time ago and I was just curious what the more experience people here think about its results. Do you reckon they're accurate? If not, how much do you think the value needs to be adjusted before one arrives at more realistic figure? Or are these appraisals so worthless that I should just delete the bookmark from my browser?

I know that domain names are really only worth as much as one's willing to pay for it, and that DomainTops are very explicit about the fact that their appraisal system should not be used for professional domaining - however, I'm still curious where the results this system produces are at least somewhat accurate (because I do believe there's some value to domain appraisals).

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Sincerely,
George

:red: Hehe, hi

The site's not done yet, niether is the appraisal system... unfortunately I'm having trouble checking OVT results.

Some people say that for 5 domains they checked, they were all within 20% or so. Some others tested 5 and say they were over 60% OFF. So... need to work on it some more.

My next feature is user feedback: Too high/too low, then averaging out the results, it gets more accurate. Oh, what fun -_-

As for my own opinion, I believe as well that appraisals have value - e.g. if you wanted to start a public auction or set a BIN, what would you set it at? Some would $20 if it was really worth $250 - (this happened to me once, one reason I started this site...) - so really, you SHOULD want them.

Alright, thanks for the feedback - it looks like the system is quite good, then (although it did appraise some of my domains at like $400, and I was having difficulty selling them for $80).

Still, it looks like I will be using it more often, since it surely beats bugging people for appraisals and paying NP$ for it.

By the way, to give the creator a bit of publicity, the appraisal system can be found at www.DomainTops.com

One question, though - does the system produce end-user or reseller appraisals? Perhaps that could be the reason why some of my domains were appraised at $400 - that, or maybe I'm rich and don't even know it.

Thanks for your efforts,
George

Lol, good question actually.

It depends on the extention. .net, .org, and .biz appraisals are rather inaccurate - while CCTLDs are getting more accurate since they're simpler to evaluate based on geographical location. Generally, on these (.net, .org, and .biz) you will likely see end user appraisals. For the other extentions, you can bet on resale value.

.net is tricky because it could be used for so many different reasons, and will probably STAY the least accurate. .org is easier but still, IMO, .org names have little value without development. Others disagree. And .biz, since how is the computer supposed to know if something is a business or not? A market? Perhaps a hobby or popular concept?

Thanks for asking ^_^
