For example, if I registered businessservers.com (forget the quality of the name), would it degrade the value because of the "sss" in the middle of the name?

this is where hyphens work great and actually produce a more memorable domain

of course ideally you have both, but if driving past and you see a hoarding:

businessservers.com

or business-servers.com

obvious which ones better :imho:

I agree, it was just a general question and thanks for your answer.

These kinds of names are invitations for typos. What I do if the name has value is get all the major variants (yes, it gets expensive):

businessservers
businesservers
business-servers

The second one is a typical typo.

I think "business-servers.com" looks much better.

Another way of getting around the issue is to display the name as:

BusinessServers.com

but this doesnt help in the address bar a of a browser etc, but does help in looking at the domain. How does the horading look now?

BusinessServers.com

only slightly - sometimes its inevitable, but if its a premium combo that runs into that problem, ppl will forgive and still want. Your is sort of an example of that - another would be: freeexchange.com but you would market as: FreeExchange.com - so it really doens't matter

No, it wouldn't devalue the value of the domain at all. Adding a hyphen in between would devalue the name a lot.

What about when 2 joined words create another unexpected word in the middle. I find this happens alot.

Yes, you have to be very careful about that! Doctorsexchange.com (for example, I don't own it) could be a site for doctors looking for locums ( temporary fill-ins) but it can read several ways:

DoctorsExchange.com
or
DoctorSexchange.com

Have fun figuring out other ones...
