ICANN requires all registrars to make sure their customer's WHOIS info is complete & accurate; that failure to do so will land 'em registrars in trouble.

Some registrars like Go Daddy & Network Solutions included a feature in their WHOIS that requires browsers to enter a screen-generated code before going on. That should prevent unwanted programs from looking up a domain's WHOIS like the snap of its fingers.

Another reason why WHOIS information must be displayed and accurate is to prevent cybersquatting and scammers.

As far as I know, Netsol has a feature where you can enter a different contact info for WHOIS & your internal account. Think of it as like putting contact info A in WHOIS and contact info B inside your domain name account.

Not sure if Go Daddy does this.

By the way, there is a free domain registration service I did find, though it's a bit complicated. Go to http://freedomainname.cjb.net/.

In the .co.uk registration process, it depends on whether you are registering the domain name as an individual or not. Individuals can hide their info from being shown whereas all other types of organisations cannot. My domain registrar doesn't charge as far as I know but I have never bothered ticking the box to hide my details.

Seems like a scam. I mean .cjb.net is a free redirection thing, they can't afford to get their own domain??

I offer domain masking for $4.05 to my wholesalers. Click the link in my signature to see all the benefits of being a wholesaler. I'm actually running a NP$ auction on one of the accounts HERE
