Rick Schwartz recently wrote about domain trading and presented it as a good idea. I totally agree and think domainers could definitely benefit from such trading. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Do you mean trading domains for other domains or are you talking about making an electronic market for domains (like commodities for example)?

I mean trading domains for other domains. If the parties decide that their domains are of equivalent value, that would be 1 for 1, if not, that could be 1 for 2 and so forth...

But that's nothing new. I have been offered this before even by end users themselves...

Yes, but I mean doing it on a regular and systematic basis, for example, having a domain trading thread on Namepros and other forums.

It could be a possibility but it would be messy or not really effective. For example, two people can perceive different values on the same domain. A $100 domain for me could mean a $50 domain for you. In my opinion, it's easier to just sell and use the money to buy others.

Could be... But have in mind that many domainers have certain difficulties in selling certain domains while another domain may already have a client looking for that domain. For instance, if I have a lawyer domain that I have not been able to sell, I may see the value in exchanging it for another domain with keywords that I have already been successful in selling.

Yeah, cant see it being efficient having a whole forum dedicated for it.

No, Alex P., not "a whole forum", just a thread. To start, I like your thursday.tv (lol).

Ah sorry I miss read that totally, in which case sounds like a great idea, nothing to lose, if anything it will spice up selling and buying domains for a little while at least.

:tu:

And thanks lol

Everything has been tried in one way or another before.

I think its a messed up idea. Getting one domainer to agree a reseller price for his domain is hard enough. Getting two at the same time is nigh impossible. Very messy. IMHO.

i tried to get this going a while back.

it would be great if you were a developer too, and wanted to swap motorbikegloves.com for flyfishingreels.com or somesuch - to tie in with each person's interests. win/win.

if anyone wants to give it another shot, drop me a PM... i'll be in there with bells on.

Ask rick to trade one name and see first. I doubt he will even trade.

it will be hard for "equivalent" price. My baby always looks better than yours...

I think it's a good idea, I'd be up for trading domains.

Looks like trades go in the Make Offer section?
