Domain strategies (acronyms & one-word domains)

Hello

I am a new member at namepros and I am introducing myself to others. I just wanted to say hello. I have been domaining for around 1 and a half years. I usually use other forums instead. I usually buy "acronyms" domains and "one word" domains. How long have you been domaining for? What type of domains do you normally buy? Do you have any buying strategies?

Welcome Ferd.

The last sentence caught my eye. The domaining cycle (in my experience) has always been a mix of 2 critical aspects, among many. You need to have a selling strategy before you have a buying one.

Before you buy, if you figure, in a narrow range of its outcome, how and where the domain will end up, and in an acceptable time frame - you will be in a good place, financially.

Stick to .com with the single word domains would be my advice. Unless you have found a market niche where you have sold domains in the past. Most domains other than .com are exponentially harder to sell.

I have sold .net before. How hard is it to sell .net. Also how about .co.uk, .uk, .ca, .com.au, and .eu? How about .org?

.net .co.uk .uk .ca .com.au .eu How do you cover such diverse markets? If you are from UK I can understand how you could cover the UK market. But how do you find customers in the Canadian or Australian markets? Similarly, if you are from US. I would probably imagine it's difficult to even cover the Canadian market, let alone the other markets you mention. Personally, my success in any market other than .com, has been zero, even for .net. But that could be my choice of words. Can you give an example of a .net you have sold and the profit you made on it?

@stub

One example of a .net sold: I have sold a three letter .net

Was it a word or an acronym? My advice was talking about 1 word domains. Acronyms have a much wider customer audience. And a .net is a global tld. But you haven't really answered the question how you cover such diverse markets for 1 word or acronym ccTLDs. I think that is very difficult.

My .net was a random 3 letter .net. I just list them on international and one-country for eg UK marketplaces. This is how I do this.

For the acronyms or the 1 worders? For example how would you market a .com.au or .ca domain from the UK?

I would post on international marketplaces, australian marketplaces and Canadian marketplaces

OK. You have my permission to sell 1 word domains in those markets :) But if I had a choice, I'd stick to the LLL.net's. They are more liquid, IMHO.
