What's the best way for me to become a domain reseller?

alternatively, what's the process of becoming accredited by ICANN?

thanks. I've always had an interest in the registrar business

Are you referring to becoming a reseller of domain names that can be hand registered?

I think you can easily become a reseller at programs like GoDaddy, Directi and other such services and then setup your own store front to sell the names.

If you are becoming a registrar, then you shouldn't be looking at directi or godaddy.

To become a registrar, you are looking at approx $90K-$130K per year for a registrar. http://www.verisign.com/information...om-net-registry/become-a-registrar/index.html

There is also www.MyRebel.com but you can not dropcatch domains. It's about $3K per month, plus your domain fees. You get full control over your domains and regisrar pricing.

I think you are asking about a Reseller account really but your not sure what you are looking for. Godaddy, eNom have them, but I do not thing they are worth it IMO.

Yofie - I believe your numbers are VERY high. Do correct me if I'm wrong...

$2,500 non-refundable application fee
$4,000 yearly accreditation fee
$8,000 variable fee ($1,200 to $2,000 per quarter recently)

Now, a few more notes from my understanding...

1.) This does not include costs for actually filling out the application, management of the registrar and most importantly costs to program the registrar or license software that runs the registrar.

2.) $0.20 fee per domain registered is not part of above either.

3.) You need to have proof of at least $70,000 working capital. This is not paid to ICANN, but demonstrates your ability to be a registrar.

4.) You need at least $500,000 in general liability insurance.

So at the end of the day, pure costs it looks to be about $15,000 a year before costs of running the business / programming / support / etc. Do point out if I’m missing anything. I did look into this a few months ago, and that is what I found.

Yes your numbers are correct. I was looking at total cost after development of the site. Building the drop catching script, support, money on hand to buy some domains etc. A big part of my cost, also showed the $70K of working capital.

You can try out WebNIC too as your one-stop domain management center. ICANN accredited as well as many other ccTLDs extensions. We only work with Resellers as we are a B2B domain wholesale provider. Just top-up a minimum of US$100 pre-payment usable for domain transactions. Moreover, you can integrate via API / Private Label to have a domain storefront yourself :)

Hope this helps!
