Domain name ownership transfer

There is a small company that has a domain name simillar to mine. Its actually the same but mine is seperated with a dash.

The company has informed me that they no longer wish to use their current domain name and gave me the heads up that they will be letting it go soon.

Is there a process where they can directly transfer ownership to me instead of letting become available to the general public?

if you open an account at the same registrar you can do it quicker than with a transfer.

It's better to contact to those company people to transfer the domain.
