Domain Name Market Recovery?

I just got two inquiries for domain names this week for the first time in the whole year. One of them was a low-balling you have to give me your name for almost free because it should be ours. But, the second one was a genuine interested end user who I had a very good talk and might end up collaborating with in different situations.

Anybody else seeing any recovery in the industry? Taken, my case might be pure coincidence.

Despite that forum selling has dried up, end-user selling (especially to SMBs) is and always has very lucrative so long as you keep your portfolio filled with liquid names.

I have received about 3-4 genuine end-user inquires on my domains per month over the several few months, and my portfolio consists of just 400-ish low to mid quality domains. But they are end-user type domains, not domainer type names, which is why I receive regular end-user inquiries on them.

Agree.

I sell at least 5 names a month from end users contacting me directly. Either through Parked.com contact form or direct email. I have way more sales that way than through SEDO.

If you have domains with end user appeal, especially in a realistic price range, sooner or later you will get contacts and sales. It really helps if you have a large portfolio (500+) with quality domains.

Haven't seen evidence of a recovery as yet, certainly some segments look to be still falling eg llll.com and I think probbaly lll.com and other highly speculative areas. I think many may expect the market to recover with stockmarkets etc and I lean to that view a bit myself. On the other hand the fundamentals of the domain market still don't look good, parking, over speculation etc. I still think the domain area has quite a lot of "clearing out" to do of bad business models, maybe that will go on for another year.

Regarding enduser it doesn't look to have been hit as hard as other areas, then again enduser don't pay the bills for most domainers either.

This past month I have noticed an increased in end-user inquiries. Although I dont think we have seen a Domain market recovery - I think end-users still are out there and are starting to feel a bit more confident in the economy as a whole.

Me too. And I am just about to close a $xx,xxx end user deal. I already have a deposit with the balance coming next week but maybe sooner.

I think the domain market is healthy enough. The problem is domainers are dropping like flies. Lots of entry level domainers rely on reseller sales to flip domains and stay liquid in the market. If you can't afford reg fees on 100+ domains and suddenly you can't go to a forum and drop a few to make up some capital your portfolio is going to suffer. Eventually you migth drop out of the market entirely.

I am dropping domains. Mostly non CNO's and stuff I keep saying I will develop but year after year I don't. So they drop. I can deal with it. My portfolio is still over 400 domains and is looking stronger than ever.

At Sedo I am getting more offers and hey..some aren't even lowballers.

Make that 3 inquiries now. Last year I had 6 inquiries and 3 of them ended up in sales to end users. Maybe the hit rate won't be as good, but I see some light at the end of the tunnel.

I still see some mixed feelings.
