Hello all,

I think that many of you here are tired of selling domain names for a buck or two for profit.
The domain business today is not the same domain business like several years ago - where you can sell the name for 5 or six figures. Why?

According to my research, there are hundred of thousands of domain dealers out there who own an average of several hundred names (many of us from NP do to). These dealers accumulate million of names (both good and bad names) BUT THE MAJORITY OF THESE PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MARKET THE NAMES.

In the NamPros for sales section, you're technically selling to other resellers for a small profit. Sometimes you're even take a loss if the name is about to expire.

I think the domain market is not as bad as many may think if you can find the market/buyers.

I'm thinking creating a site called "Domain Name Broker Association" (Let me know if you can think of a better name).

What we'll do with the site strictly membership (where you have to pay a nominal fee,i.e. $10 a year to prove that you're serious.
- Members will exchange current inventory by entering them into one large database with the prices that they wish to sell.
- There will be a couple of full time marketing members who their job will be contact end-user to solicit the sale based on the name.
- A certain percentage will be retained for the administration of the association.

So what I'm trying to do is gather as many names as we can so we have a large inventory and then we'll market them diectly to the end users.

I have successfully did this. I bought names from NP here for a couple of bucks, define and contact the potential buyers and close the sale for a couple of hundred dollar (I believe Wanda did it too).

Let me know your thought! Feel free to pm or send me an email.

Regards,

I really am offended by that. You shouldn't judge somebody by their age, but rather by their professionalism. Now I know you followed that comment with "I don't mean to discriminate against anybody" or something similar, and I appreciate that. But please, don't make false assumptions about somebody because of their age :D.

edit:

I also appreciate this: "Iknow age isn't an indicator for business behavior."

Sorry for my rant

I'm just wondering..not meaning to offend anyone...but can a 14 year old enter into a legally binding contract???

http://www.afternic.com/agreement.php

YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 18 TO AGREE TO THIS AGREEMENT AND USE THIS SITE This Agreement must be completed, understood and agreed to by a person at least 18 years old. If a parent or guardian wishes to permit a person under 18, and under his or her supervision, to use this site, he or she should email the Company with his or her explicit permission and acceptance of full legal responsibility for the minor to do so. If you are not yet 18, do not have the capacity to enter into contracts, if you are easily offended, or are accessing this site from any country where material on this site is prohibited or illegal, please leave now as you do not have permission to access this site.

I don't see why a domain can't be registered by a parent. Hopefully loving parents...

I'm sorry I kind of derailed the topic. Back on subject!

When in doubt, copy afternic. The policy looks solid to me. Johnn, best be thinking about some kind of discussion area at the broker site.

In the US, a minor cannot enter into a legally binding contract as a buyer or seller, not just on Afternic, but anywhere. This is taught in basic business law. I would think this would limit the ability to be considered a reliable seller since any sale could by legally be revoked or voided by the seller or their guardian later and the buyer could be forced to return the domain. This may never happen, but it could.

This would not absolutley preclude a minor since membership could be made and business transactions conducted by a legal quardian as one of the conditions of membership. Another possible alternative would be if a minor were a decision maker for another legal entity where age were not a factor like a corporation or LLC. In this case the person would not be the member, but a legally recognized entity would be. This entity may have to be owned or managed by an adult based on State, Federal, or Country laws.

Laws in places other than the US may be different, so I'd say age is not the real factor, but the legal ability enter into a binding contract is.

Some quick links on the subject:

This is something to be wary of in purchasing domains as well.

Hello,

I do appreciate all the support from these posts, PMs as well as emails.

We're still looking for more founding members. Please send me an email to state your qualifications:
- Education
- Background (Domain/Internet related)
- Country/Region
- Your ideas of the organization structres
- What can you do/contribute
- etc.. other relevant information

to: [email protected]

Please give me a day a two so I can set up a forum from DNBA.org so we can continue to dicscuss without taking space and bandwidth from NamePros (even through RJ supporting the idea).

I'll post the announcement here when we're ready.

This is going to be real hardwork and we'll need to work together as a team to make it happen.

Special thanks to Meljr to donate 500 NP$ to support the idea even through we are not ready yet.

Many thanks to all.

I had a problem also but I guess you need a User account for the forum setup seperate from your main DBNA account.

You're correct as there is no link between the Content Management System (CMS) and the Forums.

Anthony,

The CMS is the front end of the site. I turned it off now as we're not ready yet.

We have private forums (you have to reigister and login in order to view or post messages) for now to continue to discuss until we come up with the plan.

Thanks,

We need a volunteer Lawyer.

With all the rules/regulations, I think we need a lawyer to draft all the legal documents.

If I remember correctly, there are some volunteer lawyers in the domain name industry from DNJournal.com.

Does anyone know someone from DNjournal and make the connection.

Thanks,
