Was talking with a friend recently. His opinion is that a good domain name can enhance confidence by consumers and investors, which therefore can affect the company's stock price. I think it's a bit far-fetched.

What do you think?

I don't think owning a particular domain will have any real effect on a company's stock price. Though, it would absolutely have an effect on the overall value of a company.

I do think changes in a domain name can, in some cases, have an effect on a company's stock price.

For Example:

"Google switches to GoogleSearchEngine.com" = $

"Sony Music Entertainment acquires Music.com" = $

I think it'd be interesting to go back and see how certain acquisitions effected a company's stock price...

if the domain name can increase their brand popularity, there's a chance and correlated with sales! it mean more profit, it mean stock price increase! Good domain, can help marketing department! because good domain can win the game! easy to remember, save PPC bugdget, save ads, save money! more profit!

my point is, for long term yes it can increase stock price! because for some reason domain name make everything more easier! but for short term no!

I think @Kassey Lee might talk about the Chinese market in particular. Here are some examples:

Le.com
jd.com
mi.com

acquiring shorter and better names mean a lot for Chinese businesses

My thinking is that, yes, a good domain name can increase traffic, reduce ad expenses, and therefore contribute to the bottom line. But, measuring the cause and effect is almost impossible.

No, meant to be general and not limited to the Chinese market.

The name can affect company turnover, and obviously the domain name is linked to this. I remember that an Australian dentist changed his surname to "Painless", and as a result he had a 30% increase in the number of his patients.
