I've rather We've seen number of time some "not so" attractive domain sold at sky high price(there may be options but this is just my guess as I see a possibility specially when whois privacy is enabled in few cases) right?
Sometimes some transactions have something to do with the stock markets and specially with insider trading.
Ex. If company 'A's management thinks of rig its company's stock price artificially they approach few traders(read big traders,Institutional investors,HNIs)and start jack up the stock price with assured returns in specific time period.
In many cases block/bulk deal happens in stock exchanges for such stocks and slowly price of stock start shooting up.
Once the desired goal is achieved, the third parties need to pay the "stipulated charges"to promoters of stock.
Hence there can be a possibility of buying some domain and help promoters for payback.
This is just my wild guess but I see a light at the end of tunnel because no one can get a bad smell out of this trade and it is 100% safe and genuine.
