I am not sure what is the meaning of domain masking.

Here is what i would like to know and hope someone can lighten me on this.

Lets say i have a site subdomain.domain.com, it is a fully functional website with all the files hosted under domain.com

I would like to purchase another domain, domain2.com and have it displace subdomain.domain.com

So, when you type domain2.com it wll go to subdomain.domain.com and all the links would still be domain2.com

Is that what domain masking is?

If it is not, is it possible for the scenario that i described above?
PLease enlighten me on this.

Thanks!

yes it is domain masking, domain masking lets you protect or hide the real web address of a particular site and also "conserve" all your outgoing links to be maintained in your domain.
for example, you want to quote yahoo.com on your domain.com
you use something like domain.com/yahoo.htm that goes to yahoo.com this in way will preserve or conserve outgoing links which is essential factor as well your page ranking. Hth

Its a good idea, just a bit more work. And i think weblord summed it up very nicely.

The only problem is if you have domain1.com pointed to domain2.com and you have a link to domain2.com/blah.html domain2.com will show up in the address bar.

This can sometimes be good, and other times not so good
