Hello, newbie with a couple of questions, any help much appreciated.

Hypothetical examples.

If I have, say buycars.com and my competitor is autosale.net

Autosale.net is SE optimised brilliantly say 9 of out 10

buycars.com is say poorly optimised only 2/10

Who would be higher if a Google searched buying cars or buy car?

Basically my general question is keyword in the domain name v Website SEO optimisation.

Also I have a few good .TV names that are searched quite often. But the .com/nets are taken.

Bear in mind if I have submitted my names to Google and various other SE’s.

If someone types in my exact address phrase in Google will my .TV always be on page 1 quite high?

Thanks

Probably your competitor, if they have those phrases on their site. Having a good keyword domain HELPS in rankings, it isn't a guaranteed free ticket to the top.

Not if Google thinks other pages in their index are more relevant for that phrase.

thank you, very helpful..

I just noticed alot of info on domain selling repeats that its imperative the address has high searched keywords.

I guess basic/medium SEO on a website with a high searched phrase is going to do well.

Totally depends on your competition. If your domain keywords are "auto insurance" you're not going to outrank the big companies unless you have a site / business with the same quality and trust behind it.

Also, how do you define "basic/medium SEO"? :?: SEO is SEO - it can either be done well or not, and it's an ongoing process, not a one time thing.

Only a domain name cannot help a site to rank high: however, if a domain and the main keyword are exactly the same, then for such domains, making them rank higher for that main keyword is easy compared to a domain name that do not match the main keyword.

having keywords in the domain is a small piece of the pie for ranking signals.

but where having keywords in your domain makes a HUGE difference is when people link to your domain (without anchor text) because the keywords are baked into the URL.
