I have seen a lot of land that is not built-up. Who bought it and why? Do they keep it to make huge money? Why is it not free for taking by everyone?

There's tons of amazing domains currently collecting dust that could be a successful business literally overnight just from the name itself - I chalk it up to serious investors that were in the game long before any of us that already have enough money to not have to go out of their way to create new wealth... Yes I'm talking to you reflex publishing and digimedia with your hordes of ultra premium names

Most of them are owned by individuals either as an investment, an upcoming project, or they hold on to the domain for an abandoned project either for some other future use or to sell it.

It's also important to understand that if a domain is not listed for sale, then a potential buyer has initiate the purchase. This puts the owner in a stronger position, because the buyer is specifically targeting a domain that's not listed for sale.

There is a belief that if you have it resolving nowhere, you aren't infringing on a trademark and wouldn't have to worry about WIPO UDRP. But if I recall, there have been cases where the domain did not resolve and yet there was still a domain dispute.

You also don't need a website to have [email protected]

One of the beautiful things about domain investing is that there are many people with money to spend, either because they have more than enough cash or because they are willing to bet on a project. This is, in part, what keeps my domaining dream alive.

I have sold countless domains names that have never been used for a website. I am checking a few right now. I can’t disclose the names, but here are some of the prices:

$4000
$4888
$9888
$3888

And many more with lower prices.

Domains mustn't be operated without the requisite "Hello, Nurse!" and of course plenty of anesthesia.

You don't need to worry about infringing *content*, but there's always a case of blocking access to market.

"future project"

Domains are typically bought by investors or traders looking to resell for a profit, or by providers for future use.

That's a common complaint in UDRP/Cybersquatting cases submitted by morons and illiterates, but it's never been a consideration.

I read these cases all the time and a common opening comment from these geniuses is something like "We own BlueMediaDigitalConsortium.com, but our customers expect Blue.com and we're definitely losing traffic and market share, so as it's not currently in use, please give the domain to us!".  😆

All I'm saying that non-resolving domain doesn't protect you from a UDRP case. Its outcome is another story.

And all I'm saying is that can't lose sleep over the possibility of a totally baseless UDRP brought by a couple of drooling illiterates using spurious illogic that is virtually assured to land them an RDNH decision.

There are no guarantees in life and you take a chance walking out the door every morning.

Hello, nadeemraza. It could be a domain investor who snags some good domains and resells them to someone who needs them for the difference in price. Or for an upcoming project. Without operations, I think it's mostly the former.
