Hi!

I have met the same problem many times on Godaddy.com: I found a domain available to be registered, but I could not register through godaddy because I got the message this domain "already taken" from them, then I had to registered it on the other website.

What happened on Godaddy ?

Thanks!

That happens sometimes. If you can't trust one site for whatever reason, be
ready to use another like you just did.

Why that happens, nobody knows until someone investigates exhaustively.

Goddady's whois lagging for hours, sometimes even for days. That is why I am moving away from them.

Try enom/moniker.

Every once in a while I find some really good names while doing searches. Where all the extensions are taken except one. Sometimes I foolishly register them and keep checking my domain list for them to appear. They never do. Today I had a DUH moment and regged mickey.info because it showed available. Refunded! :bah: So yes, check with a few different registrars.

If you need to check availability use another registrar that performs live checks
Enom, Dynadot, Namecheap & Moniker are OK AFAIK

If you find yourself in that situation, there are ways to add it to your cart any way and submit it whether or not the domain is actually available or not.

I found this problem, but in a different way with godaddy...

Problem: In the days of the .EU landrush not so long ago, I wanted to pre-order a LL.eu (2 letter .EU domain). Either Godaddy was unaware or just stupid, they didnt allow anyone to put a LL.eu in the box because it would come up with an error.

Solution: I looked up a random available domain on their system (EG sdkjhrtsn.com). Once the page had loaded, I saved the page on to my hard drive. I then opened it in Notepad/Dreamweaver, searched and replaced the domain I inserted for the one that I wanted to buy, saved it and re-openened the edited file in my browser. From there I could just select the domain from the list on the page and it would add it to my cart.

Hooray... a by pass to Godaddy's crappy systems! :tu:

lol, Not really... they just take your money and attempt to register it. If it REALLY isn't available then they refund your money in full.

Its just by passing the whois, if it is crappy.

Personally Ive never had trouble with their actual WHOIS service when registering domains.
