There appear to be more domain hacks in use than I have noticed in previous years. As there is a value of domain hack thread, this thread could be useful to document hacks you have seen on day to day life.

There are obviously ones which are well know such as Youand.Me and del.icio.us.

If any one has a list please add it.

The ones which I have noticed in the last two days are.
Squa.re (advertised on a FT newsletter I got in my inbox today)
and an email at wemovesh.it (I wont name the full email incase it gets $pammed but it was on the back of a slurry tanker while I was on the motorway.)

Several sites use domain hacks for their URL shorteners. For example, Youtu.be, Goo.gl, Flic.kr, Bugzil.la, etc.

Maybe once, but I can't remember. Shorter is not always more memorable :gl:

Apple-Owned 'iTun.es' Domain Could Be Used as iTunes Link Shortener

One MacRumors reader realized that the new integration with Twitter could make a good opportunity for Apple to deploy its own link shortener to help fit its links into the character restrictions imposed by Twitter. The reader let us know that he had discovered that iTun.es forwards to Apple's site and theorized that the domain could be used by Apple for just such a service.

Registration information for iTun.es

We dug into the situation a bit further and determined that the iTun.es domain is in fact registered to Apple via MarkMonitor, the brand management firm Apple uses to handle all of its domain registrations. The domain was registered to Apple in December 2006, meaning that Apple has not just recently moved to lock down the domain as a link shortener, but the new tie-in with Twitter does provide an excellent opportunity for Apple to roll out a service using the domain.

There are 2 rules I recommend to follow:
1. Do not forget renew your domain name in time
2. Change password from your domain name registrar control panel regular.

I think it will be some time before you see domain hacks advertised in earnest offline. Don't forget, many promotional methods offline are verbal... and the hack owner/promoter needs to think very carefully about how credibly his hack can be referred to verbally.

I also think consideration needs to be given to the placing of the "dot" in a name hack i.e. is it justified, for the site premise, or will it appear to the user that the owner has just settled on a hack because they couldn't afford the .com/.net/.org, etc...

Great, but try saying that to someone verbally...

Also, users will want to know what is the reason for the dot being in-between the "o" and the "f"...

So just to clarify, in your definition a domain hack needs to have a . in it?

But i see where you are coming from...
