Domain forced transfer

Hi all,

I hope this is the right forum for these questions.
I have purchased 2 domains 11 months ago, both were actualy free with the hosting.
I had encountered many problems with the hosting company and wish to transfer the domains.
Can I somehow renew it from another company? do I have to pay some fee to the current company? I was thinking on the line of expired domains, but I'm not sure if that means the domain will be down for some time.

oh, and to add to the problem, they've registered the domains under their name & not mine.

any help would be appriciated.

This is the problem, rest would be a pretty easy if it was registered under your name.

As they have reged it under their name, pretty much lost case as it is NOT yours.

As it was with a purchase of other items, you may take a closer look into the terms.
Probably a "negociation" issue and you can move to whereever registrar.

I hope this is not a example of the disadvanteges of Free domains where
they fore you to maintain hosting with them if you love your domain ;(

Now you have discovered one of the domainer golden rules which is to separate the registration of the domain name from hosting and never accept the 'free offer' which causes problems of the type described above.
If you wish to retain the name then I would suggest that you ask the current hosting co to allow transfer of the name to another registrar. In the meantime:
. set up another website under a different name to perform the functionality that you require.
. suggest you reg a newname with eg namecheap and a hosting with eg brinkster.
. let the current hosting drop and have the oldname nameservers set to newname for the remaining period of your 'service'.
. the current hosting might ask for some reg payment for the last year to transfer domain out under your ownership (or some other reason).....oh, and if you do transfer the name out, remember to not transfer it to your new hosting service!

The company name is DTS-NET.
I've never transferd a domain name before, how do I tell them where I need them to transfer it?

i see an obvious problem in the first place you own the domain it's not owned by hosting companies even if they offer free hosting to go with it, well, if they're professional they will let it go, but if not then prepare yourself to say bye bye to them.

both. your domain/hosting company that registered and took your domains and your domains.
lesson to learn: don't register your domains from your hosting provider not unless they're godaddy.com but still has some quirks to go with it, yeah no one's perfect.

how do I tell them to which registrant I want it transfered? I need to contact the registant 1st? get some details?

(1) tell them to change the domain details/personal info to that of yours
(2) if you transfer to other domain registrar you will pay for transfer fees
(3) transfer it to domain owner's friendly registrar such as here namepros.com, namecheap.com, moniker.com to name a few that I like

I had a bad case of this, as did many others. At the end of the day the domain is theres and I will be shocked if they allow you to transfer it away without a fee at least.

I lost a good domain through this.

Never get hosting and domain with the same company - they will practically own you!
