Domain experts please help -- backordering issues

How can an expired domain be acquired during its expiration phase? I was waiting to backorder a domain and I used 4 backorder services (Pool, Namejet, Snapnames, and GoDaddy). The domain did not even hit the redemption period and was acquired by someone. First, how could this have happened? Second, how can they pass over the expiration/redemption and backorder phase? First thing that came to mind was the original owner renewed the domain but that was not the case. The domain is now listed in BuyDomains which is saying it will soon be for sale. Did BuyDomains or Afternic acquire the domain?

I need help with this I really need this domain If they sell it they could put 6-figures on it :o

any number of things could have happened:

could have been sold, while expired, but not yet in redemption

bd could have already owned it and never updated whois

pool,snap,nj, gd...don't always catch everything

etc.

Interesting. OK. I did not know a domain could really be sold even if it's expired. So if it was sold during it's expiration phase how long do you think until the whois information will change?
