Hi

I read Namesilo provide NameDefender tool but no SSL certification ... Could anyone advice me as to whether or not it is at a domain registration that the issue of SSL becomes vital or then one should ONLY worry at the hosting stage?

Please advise !!!!!!

if you're just reselling names, then you don't need them

SSL is recommended only if you take payments (to be encrypted), otherwise there is no reason to worry about.

Do you have any online transaction that takes place on the website? If yes, then an SSL certificate is needed as it will encrypt the transactions that take place over the website. An SSL helps to keep sensitive data encrypted.
