Guys, I'm just a newbie in the domain business. I would like to know everything about domain auctioning, the best place to auction and what it entails.

Welcome to Namepros! :cigar:

A good place to start, learn to walk before you run, like, is right here, at Namepros. This is also the place to ask questions and learn about all other domain marketplaces before you go all in buyin' or sellin' :xf.wink:

I appreciate all of your responses. I have been through the threads on this forum for a couple of weeks but I haven't just found out exactly what I need. Some of my inquiries are:
1.How is it possible to list your domain on various auctions since you are obliged by most sites to sell when the bid has been won. So, what if the bid was won in more than a single site.
2. Also, when you want to list your site for auction, what are the options you can chose and which one is the best one?
I'm asking all these because I have a 5-letter domain that I wish to put on auction.

1. You really do not want to have a 7-day auction at GD, along with a NJ auction (if you can get approved to list your domains on NJ), along with a Flippa Auction all for the same name, with the auctions going on at the same time. Bad, Bad practice that will get you banned from one/multiple auction houses. Try one auction platform, and if they name doesn't sell, move on to the next. If the domain is GREAT, you would want to set reserves. However, since you're new, you may not know if the name is considered great or not. If you don't, then reach out to another domainer here on NP and humbly ask.

2. I don't understand the question. What exactly are you asking here? Be specific.

I mean when you want to list your domain name for auction. You have options such as BIN, offer/counter offer or BIN only

Ahhh, you mean on GD. That all depends on what you want?

Do you want to run a 7-day auction? Domain goes to the highest bidder, if there are any bidders. (You'd need to promote your auction at different places to get some bidders, unless the domain is strong enough to attract bidders without promotion)

Do you just want to list your domain at a BIN (Buy it Now) price? Then wait (possibly for weeks/months) for someone to come along and buy it.

Do you want to list your domain with a BIN price but give potential buyers the option to still negotiate with you? For this you would choose the offer/counter with BIN

Do you want people to just make you offers? Then that would be offer/counter offer

So you chose an option based on what you think is best for your domain.

If your 5L is pronounceable and could make a good brand, you can also try submitting it to BrandBucket.com.

You can also try to just sell the domain for a quick profit here on NP. List it for sale by auctioning it or by offering people to buy it now with a "Buy it NOw" price.

Hope this helps somewhat

Btw, if you want to make sure I get a notification that you've replied to me here on this thread, click the 'reply' link under this post.

Thanks...your words were clear enough for me. I like the auction option but I don't know how to promote it.
Actually, I've listed the domain for sale on a couple of market places...if I later place it on auction with option of BIN...do I need to unlist it from those market places or just put the same BIN on all those sites. I don't want to be accused of double dealing

Ideally, your domain should not have BIN anywhere else while you have it in auction, and you should not be running multiple auctions on the same domain.

I think most people forget to remove BIN at other marketplaces while their domain is in auction, and it all works out many times because chances of someone hitting the BIN in one place while the domain is in auction at another place is low. Although it has happened. When/if it does happen, chances are you'd be banned from one of the marketplaces

However, if you're talking about the offer/counter offer with BIN on GD. Then, "no' you don't have to remove the BIN on the other marketplaces.

How then can I promote the domain name on auction?

@kdot19, I would only encourage you to pay for promotion if you've sought advice and know that the domain will sell. If you did, you can pay $10/day to promote it at DSAD.com, same to promote it at NameBio. You can promote the auction for free here Namepros.

I want to know the nooks and crannies and how best to deal there.

Start reading this forum, and other websites related to domaining.

There is too much to know for someone to sit here and post it for you.

Take the time to educate yourself on the subject.
