Domain Auction Discussion - Case 1

It's time we all decide what is good and bad about the domain trading system we use at the present time:

sedo, afternic, pool, tdnam

What is missing?
What you don't like?
Could there be something they can add to make it easier to sell or buy?
Which auction house is better and why?
Is the auction system user friendly?

The problem with selling domains at auction? Potential buyers are not neccesarily available or aware that the domain is at auction. You cross your fingers and hope you get a good buyer that wants the domain and is willing to pay for it.

I'll comment on TDNAM, as it is the one I frequent most.

TDNAM is great for buying expired domains from GoDaddy, you can find some fantastic deals (IMHO) there. Is it good for selling? No. I think their system is bulky, and lacks real oversight to ensure transactions happen quickly and timely. The advantage here is that when you buy an expired domain it remains continuous registration (unlike backorders).

More than 1/2 of my TDNAM transactions have failed due to buyers flaking or sellers backing out, so my goal is to not become too invested time-wise at TDNAM. To that end, I only bid on expired names now (That GoDaddy pushes, and the only "risk" involved is that the current owner will renew) and when I list things for sale, I consider it incredibly lucky if the buyer comes through. What TDNAM is oversight.
I like Sedo, even though I wish they would do more to watch out for potential fraud since they are the "Cadillac", to date, of domain selling platforms. For example: Clearly label all IDN's, remove SMS from bidder verification options, and watch more closely for fake traffic. They are improving, but too slowly for this very demanding wart
Afternic Bazaar is great - my sales/purchases almost always go through (I can't remember a failure) and it's a way to get rid of names you don't want, and a way to get some gems from time to time.
Afternic itself needs to get back on the offensive when it comes to advertising. The evaluation of the relationship with buydomains remains to be seen.

TDNAM is the worst place to buy or sell domains... the only thing i continue to use is the close out deals... once you pay the $5 fee its a gurantee your the new owner... thats the only option i like...

I'm not a big fan of afternic, never seen one offer or had any luck selling. Sedo, I've had one sale for 2k... and that took 9 weeks to get paid....
