Does your family understand domaining?

During the rare occasions I have explained domaining to some friends or family, the reactions I get are mixed, but in most cases, it is hard for them to fully understand why domain names can have so much value.

Sometimes domain investors take it for granted that everyone knows what a domain name is and how it works, but the reality is a huge number of people (probably most people) have no idea of how this work. Is that your experience?

I don't tell people at all. I figure the less that people know, the less competition.

Most people that do this give up anyways. All you have to do is look at this forum from years back and you will see a scattering of unfamiliar avatars that have made the comments and observations that we all make.

This is all still VERY new, and very foreign, to the masses.

The only people that I talk domains with are my wife and my mother. They are about the only two people that will listen to me rant on for more than 15 minutes anyways.

Either way, as they say; money talks. So I stopped talking about it and just show the results to those close to me.

Reading these comments makes me think adoption/awareness of new tld's might take a lot longer than many of the proponents appreciate.

Whenever I tell my friends and family about domain investing,I get looked at like I have a penis sticking out of my forehead. It happens all the time.
