Does Legitcript.com has the authority to order GD takes down website?

I read that Legitscript has pressured Godaddy to take down pharmacy websites. http://www.mesomorphosis.com/blog/2...oid-websites-under-pressure-from-legitscript/

It cites mainly US laws and understandable, GD is subjected to US law, but does that means that if I switch to a registrar in China, or India or anywhere else, except US, legitscript.com would have no influencing power?

Interesting story. I think you would be fine if you switched to a registrar out of the U.S tbh..., mind you if your using the .com namespace, it could still be tricky. Not really my field and a grey area at best. I can understand the need for such an authority though, the number of pharmacy sites selling questionable products is huge, not too mention their spam, own a couple directories and youll find that out. Id be very happy to see all pharmacy sites eliminated, but thats just me.

Maybe. That depends if legitscript has a lobbying party in that country or so,
and if any applicable law exists there.

Thanks, I do not have any pharmacy websites, but i am only thinking that the only authority to govern the domain industry would be ICANN, so there is no need for such validation agencies. Who in the near future, someone come out with legitsex.com to validate all porn sites....who are these 'agencies' to police the internet. If legitscript.com wanted to close down illegal pharmacy site, it should pressure ICANN, so that ICANN forces all registrars...that will be much more effective.

ICANN doesn't interfere in registrars' civil issues with private parties. And they
don't handle those themselves, either.

It's up to the individual registrar if they want to "give in" to private parties like
Legitscript or not. Go Daddy happens to make that choice, but other registrars
aren't required to handle it the same way they did.

godaddy is prompt of taking care of these issues for themselves, that's what i like about them.
