Hello,

I wonder if you know any recent country.biz or bigcity.biz sales.
Do they have any value? What do you think are they worth?
Thanks,

Alex

It purely depends on the size of the city/country and the economy of that place.

Obviously, a country with a very small amount of business is likely to fetch less as a domain, than a country with a large amount of business.

You can't put one set value on the domains.

Thank you Tom, you are right, but are there any sales?
Let's say a country like Bolivia. Does Bolivia.biz has any value in the reseller market? (I am not associated in any way with this name).
I couldn't find any recent sales, but do you have any?

Following are the city/country .biz sales in last 12 months:

DaytonaBeach.biz $560 (5/07)
LakeHavasu.biz $2250 (4/07)
Seattle.biz $2000 (4/07)
Havana.biz $1675 (12/06)
Austin.biz $2360 (10/06)
Geneva.biz $1175 (5/06)
Brasil.biz $2050 (5/06)

As one can see the prices are much lower than one would expect for the same domains in other newer extensions such as .info (globally) and .us (for US cities).

I think big cities in .biz have value. small towns are probably another story though. I have clevelandohio.biz, bronxny.biz, cityofdenver.biz, cityofboston.biz and

I bought DaytonaBeach.biz. I would certainly prefer that name in .us or .info as those extensions give you a broader range of interest to cover on a geo website than just business - but even though .biz is narrowly targeted for a geo domain, I still see some good value there. Some of the best traditional media properties in all major cities is the local Business Journal. You can cover the local business community and the beauty of that is that those are the folks who have money to spend on advertising and will support you if you put out a good product.

Make yourself synonymous with business in the specific locale. It is a narrow but rich vein you can tap. For example with Daytona Beach you have a community whose economy is based on tourism. You could do feature stories on the top hotels and resorts, restaurants, attractions, etc - interviewing those business owners and presenting what they have to offer. I think both consumers and the business people themselves would love it and allow you to build a very strong following. Domains have the potential to be made into great media properties with a very small investment. The average guy can't afford to buy a print newspaper, radio or TV station, but he can build a website that can be just as powerful (if not more so) than outlets in traditional media.
