if your domain is registered with godaddy and you let it expire for too long they will hit you up with a 80 dollar redemtion fee before putting your name up for auction.. they are making a killing with this new policy.

I hate godaddy, make it impossible to push a domain to a different registrar.

No one registrar makes *pushing* to other registrar possible. Registrar's change is called 'transfer' and is documented in ICANN's transfer policy: http://icann.org/transfers

GoDaddy's ToS are really more strict (to say the least) than those of ICANN.

That just is not true. I have transferred several domain names away from GD without any trouble.

Re auto renew, even if it is on, it is better to manually renew your names before the expiry date and avoid software glitches. Similarly it is better to delete a name near the expiry date than just wait for drop. This is good for GD and other registrars. (apart from rubbish 1+1 who will snare you near the expiry date re drops)

My experience is *TOTALLY* different. GoDaddy uses every possible reason to make your transfer impossible. However, when you'll learn the caveats of their ToS, you know what to expect and plan your actions accordingly.

You can add a new account and move the domains you don't want to renew to it!

If this is true, may you tell me the instructions. I am not getting responses back to my inquiries from them.

I think godaddy is pretty good.

If you go to "my account" it is possible to see your domain names in order of expiry date. This makes it possible to see which ones will expire first. Just click on "expiry date" at the top of the list.
