Does Anyone Need ANOTHER Reason To Develop Your Domains?

There is a new Mozilla Firefox add-on that intents to keep internet users from visiting parked domains. The “Duck Duck Go Toolbar 1.1.4” blocks over 42 million parked websites (listed at ivegotafang.com) and keeps internet users from the advertisements that generate revenue for many domainers.

A block page notifies users who download the toolbar whenever they land on a parked domain and lets them choose to go back, proceed anyway, or search for something else - while also recommending alternative websites (ex. “Did you mean Facebook.com?” instead of Facebbook.com).

If internet service providers follow suit or browsers include this functionality without extensions, this type of tool could create a major hurdle for domainers to overcome and could even affect potential buyers of domains that were parked at one point. The Firefox extension also aims to promote the DuckDuckGo search engine.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Further proof that parking sucks. If browser makers incorporate this as a standard feature it will mean the death of parking and a GLORIOUS run of upcoming drop names.

Nice, let the parked pages die. Develop or get the heck out of the way.

It sounds from the description as though the parked page blocker would actually force the user to "answer" something before moving on - thus an extra click -
Who would want to bother with that?
No faster or better than just seeing the parked page and clicking the "back" button.
Right?

I will just sit down and watch this unfold from a distance. Yes, I like PPC revenue but I wouldn't mind developing and it will give me a push if need be. I think it will be a wake up call for many of us "lazy" domainers.

I would LOVE to hear what some of the big guys like Frank Shilling or Rick Schwartz thing about this.

Well maybe not this in particular but things such as a Google browser without a URL bar may mean the death of type ins.

I'd like to hear Rick's 2 cents on this. I have a domain that still gets about 200 UV a day... I best start developing it

Yes, a browser without a direct URL navigation bar should be proliferated. People should be forced to enter keywords in the Search Engine field.

In its Adsense program, Google always says that advertising should only be posted on sites that have content that contributes to sensible consumption of knowledge among web surfers. It implies that it is wrong to be ripping off money from people's web navigation mistakes (a.k.a. domain parking).

But while such a browser is not yet widespread, Google thinks it is ok to rip people off their money by creating "Adsense For Domains" program as a temporary money-making project for the time being.

He who controls the monopoly, is always right.

So would Adsense for Domains be affected?

When this or something like it comes pre-installed on Firefox and IE then I might arrive to the conclusion that the value of some parked pages have been greatly reduced.

And it is possible to macro-manage content-rich sites without spending 12 hours a day on them. Angry developers should stop taking out their frustration on parked pages with their sour remarks.

What you refer to is not domain parking. And "a browser without a direct URL navigation bar" sounds more like a prison cell browser to me. I earn 0 from parking, but could not resist addressing your points.

It can't be a prison cell. You can always escape where ever you want to go by typing into the "default" search engine that shows up when the browser is launched.

The difference is, when you simply type "candy", it doesn't automatically take you to "candy.com". You will be shown a list of sites that contain more "meaningful" content in them, rather than just parked pages with a list of advertisers. If you want to go to "candy.com" on purpose, then simply type the complete domain name + extension, and voila, you're there.

This has been fairly obvious to me for some time now. I'm trying to develop as many domains as I can and since I'm trying not to own a lot (~50) and all rather quality, I've got ~25% of them developed now and they earn enough to pay for renewals.

Good News!! Good News!! Finally, the annoying parked pages are no more to be seen.. :)

The next Firefox add-on to be added, in my list, Duck Duck Go Toolbar 1.1.4

I have never had any earnings with parked domains

Fully agree.
just parking domain names the traditional way is no longer a good option.

I've had much better results creating small sites in a niche market somewhat related to the domain, adding not only Adsense but also relevant keywaord affiliate links.

I'd swear so many developers have some kind of superiority complex....like they are elitist.
.

Maybe that is just your inferiority complex kicking in because you don't know how to develop. :hehe: j/k

I was developing in 1996. What were you doing in 96? :)

I got out of serious developing in 2004 when I realized I could make more money in domaining. When I stopped I had 450 sites up and running .....each on their own individual IP address.
.

Funny thing is I was developing back then too, those were the days. A little bit of html and some graphics and people were paying crazy money.

Don't take my other post too hard, I was just giving you a jab for fun :p

notice the hehe and j/k after the post.
