Do you think these subdomains are really owned by the companies that the domain currently is forwarded to ?? What are your thoughts on this either way ?

I'm not sure how to do a whois on these to check.

But I bet it's just web.com trying to improve their credibility... they're not actually a bad deal at $4.95, except, they don't act as real domains :(

"If you owned, for instance, the domain name/site "WN.com", would you spend any money at all on some subdomain thingymcjob, IYHO? "

If it was just $5 for a 1 worder I think I would

Thats what I am thinking, I have got a few anyway just for a trial like - Recycle - Recycling - Invention - eco - Prague - annuity - BMX.

I know they are not popular with domainers but some endusers probably won't mind, they are only 9.90 for 2 years so there's no problem waiting a few years to find out :hehe:

Sub Domains - ah... always gives me a chuckle..

What would possess anyone to buy any of these wpoc?

You sign up with a non-regulatory body and buy a sub domain to their main domain, you agree to a contract saying pretty much at any time this domain could be taken from you at a moments notice to which you would have no recourse and people buy this stuff .... ??

Wait a sec, I have some snake oil in my bag if youre interested..??

Oh, hang on, i do apologise i forgot poker.web.com was sold by a member here for $15k.. I hush my mouth

I enjoyed reading your posts in the other thread about subdomains and do not disagree with you at all - BUT - Like most things in life there are usually more reasons not to do something than to do it !

I am glad to see that there are many people who enjoy taking a chance -

After all if it was'nt for them we would all probably be still living in caves and the world would be a very different place. :)

sure, agree 100%! Take a chance, a risk, speculate, stick your neck out but dont EVER back a horse with only 3 legs.

And a nice philosophical perspective as well btw. Im sure all the great inventors, visionaries and philosophers of our race would of been proud to know that years after their deaths they would be compared with someone who buys sub-domains. :red: ;)

I don't see sub domains as being very different to buying a leasehold on a property, if the contract is done properly.

At the end of the day none of us actually own our domains.

But would you rather back the three legged horse or the four legged donkey?
