Hello everyone,

I just about got scammed..

I made a deal to sell some LLLL.coms on DP. The buyer sent me the money and his transfer details. I searched his name, didn't find much, searched his email and found a thread on DP that reported him as a scammer. Though he wasn't using the same username anymore he was still using the same old email account.

I PMed the mods and he is now banned from DP (again) and PayPal has been informed.

That little Google search saved me alot of time and heartache. Thank you Google!

So, do you research prospective buyers?

We just caught the same person here on NP.

Check it out : http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?p=2517234#post2517234

Sellers and Buyers, remember to check the Scammers section here on NP often, report scammers and do everything you can to protect yourself.

So-far doing this has saved me from being scammed four times now. Twice this month alone.

Take the money if you want but don't transfer the names untill you are comfortable enough with what you know about the buyer.

When in doubt be sure to search all emails that they contact you through, not only the whole email but the part before the "@" sign.

Also, if I am unsure about the buyer, I will send an email to the email address on file with PayPal, asking the recipient to reply with the confirmation code I supply. The scammer, usually, will not have access to this email account. Wait for a reply, both of mine came within 24hrs and both were from people who had no clue that there accounts had been hacked into.

Do all you can to save yourself from being ripped off, PayPal and GoDaddy wont!

Sounds like a great idea. I've either heard of or been the intended victim of more scams in the last week than in the previous year of domaining. The scam artists have discovered domaining and they are going to do nothing but get smarter.

Some other things I'm going to start doing - no more payments to people with zero feedback, less use of PayPal and more use of Escrow and MoneyBookers, longer waits before pushing a domain after receiving a PayPal payment and more checks of whether a domain might have been stolen.

I'm interested in other suggestions on how to protect yourself.
