How much money do an average niche forum make...?
At what point do sponsors normally get interested in investing money...?
Is it possible to make a living out of a free/template forum...?

Thanks for the feedback!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I guess it depends on how much vistors it gets.

not much. i wouldn't even except to make money from a forum through ads. you need to offer paid forum vip membership and you will make money this way.

Most people visiting forums visit the community regularly and use features they are unlikely to click ads. If you build a strong forum you can always charge for access or run ads they pay per impression. Good Luck to you!

Are you serious? NamePros.com sells advertisement space on this forum and look how well they're doing. :)

Forums can do well, but they have to be large. It's not nearly as easy to grow a forum as it is a good website and it really gets more difficult to raise revenue from ads in the early stages. If you're looking to create a forum solely based on making money, I'll save you the time and say it won't work. It has to be something that you feel fairly passionately about or enjoy talking/doing it.

Some forums make money, but like the others said adsense most likely won't work for revenue. You have to build a strong user and base and provide memberships or sell products that you produce through your forum, etc... Also to sell ad space to individual companies will boost your income. Like crazytech said, you need to be passionate about that site/forum or it won't work. If you really cared about the site, making money should come last. Serving the people should come first hand. Just like in any other business.

Yeah...that's for sure....the topics would definitely be of my interest, I just want to know more about the subject before putting my time on it...

Yes and no.

The amount the forum makes depends on how targetted the traffic is, how the ads are place, how you go about earning from the forum, etc.

Not all forums make their money from just by placing ads in the forum.

Yeah, but they can't be as bad as what video and free online game sites are. The earnings are low and the bandwidth is high. I know from having one.

Also, forums that have less people posting and more guests may perform better on the ads as they are more likely to click I guess. But saying that, don't go ahead and start banning all your posters as you will then have no new content and people go turn away that way anyway.

Avoid starting a forums to make money. Make one because you are interested in the topic. Also the money made from forums depends greatly on the subject matter. Webmaster forums make more than video game forums and financial forums make more than both. Forums are communities. How you evolve your community into a money making enterprise is up to you and can be done in dozens of proven methods.

forums don't really make a lot of money, i have a forum and it has about 300+ members, and it is pr2, still i can't make a discussion going and keep the forum active!
i guess monitarizing a forum is not all that easy

I would love to see the layout and design of the forums that are generating some revenue. I just plugged up ours but have been looking for ideas on how to launch it and get some members let alone earn money from it. . . .

Thinking about getting it skinned up to. Design Im sure comes into play later. Tieing to the site will help too?

Yes the bandwith is high and the earnings at start but a good forum +3000 members is a very well market...for example namepros with 55,197 members you can get a very good click rate in your ads, banner impresions ,email adverts, dials with other sites and of course sister sites....and come on every successfull site have a forum based situation...
