What are the requirements for DMOZ? I've submitted a site about 6 months ago and haven't heard back. I think my site is legitimate and looks so, so I don't understand why they wouldn't accept me.

Also, I haven't wanted to submit more sites so it doesn't look spammy on my part. Do they limit the amount of sites by a person, even if they are decent and real working sites?

well if there is no editor in a category you can become an editor for the category. its not impossible. usually people think like that "even my website not listed on dmoz... how it possible to become an editor they dont accept me". try to "become editor" button for a category which has less than 15 websites and no editor. i did. it works :P

It's takes a long time to get listed there and from what I have heard, being listed there is not as important anymore. Although I don't mind being listed there myself.

I’ve been an editor at DMOZ as well and the biggest problem I see is an overwhelming amount of submissions and too few editors. The backlog for many categories is over a year (with calls for help) but no end in site. So submit it, forget it and move on.

Good point, being listed on dmoz won't make or break your site. Sure it is an added advantage to be listed there, but we're well past the point that it can have any major effect on your site's traffic or SERP rankings. Submit and forget.
