I would say to some extent yes, it would be nice to find your website in the DMOZ directory as you get an important backlink from DMOZ. If your site gets listed good enough, if not there's nothing much you can do about it.

But yea, they are very important to Google, so I guess screw them, but also make you you get listed lol.


Easiest way to get listed is become an editor. Apply to edit a VERY VERY VERY small category. Like: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer...ies/N/Naples/Business_and_Economy/Industrial/

See how deep that category is? How small and slow it is? Apply to an area like that. Anything is quicker, than waiting in line after submission. lol good luck

It's not that hard to get listed.
Just design a website that deserves to be listed.
Design a website thats better then other websites
that are listed in your catagory.
Design a website that's original and useful.

Not necessarily dna. I've had websites that I thought were more useful and filled a better niche not get listed while other sites with far less content and activity were listed quickly. I think it really does depend on who edits your section.

To answer the original question, I don't think DMOZ is something that you absolutely must get listed in, but your website will benefit from being listed there.

Dmoz = useless, outdated. Don't lose sleep over not getting listed there. They are obsolete.
