Does anyone else here have good experience with directory submissions?

I think their a good idea, especially if your mini-site rules. There are a lot of members here offering directory submissions for a reasonable price and who wouldn't want all those backlinks?

I think Google doesn't like those directorys and most of them are no follow. I did one test and submitted a site to about 50 directorys. I got a few visitors but I think they were the admins reviewing the site before approving. That's it.

Submission to social sites works better.

Its all about quality. The idea is to submit to directories with page rank, preferably PR5 or above.
But it is no good submitting anything of poor quality because it wont be accepted.

But even if the HOME PAGE of the directory is a toolbar PR5 (it's PAGE rank, not "SITE rank"), the inner pages where your link would go may be much lower ranking or not even crawled/indexed at all, in which case the link wouldn't be of any value.

Except for a few big ones (like DMOZ), directories are disregarded by Google.

Just an idea. Before you submit your site to a directory you should check the PR of the subcategory and if the links are DOFOLLOW.
