Developing a Fan Site?

There is a domain name that I came across that looks nice and I think will be very valuable in a few years. Because of this, if I make this purchase, then I will not plan on flipping it, but instead holding onto it as long as its value seems to rise.

I planned on developing it as a fan site, since I am genuinely a fan of "product" and it would be far more interesting to me than putting up a generic mini-site. However, if I develop it in this fashion, would it be possible for me in the future to sell the domain name to another party who is interested in the face value of the domain name? Or does the act of pointing a domain name site a fan site permanently cheapen its value?

Development will only benefit you. You can earn profit by selling advertisements etc. Just make sure that the reputation of site remains good for whole time.
