Develop simple city site

I would like to make a simple website for my city that has the weather, time, and maybe some other simple things, like latest news.

Has anyone ever found anything like this to give me a head start? I'd like to see if there are any templates or scripts out there before I start building something from scratch...

If you want local news that you personally will keep updated, then you could either add a blog script or just mess with the HTML each time. If you want national news that updates on it's own, then find a widget similar to the weather ones above only for news. That's probably the easiest way without getting into data feeds.
