Wow nice job Selim! Gimp is by far the most popular free design program (for graphics design, I mean). For coding, I suppose you could use Notepad (doesn't come with WYSIWYG). I started out using photoshop and nvu, then switched to frontpage, then now I use dreamweaver (pure code view only, I use DW because of its nice colors and the line count on the left).

I started with 1stPage. It is an excellent program for being free. If you like javascript it comes with dozens of scripts to use for free.

Do you also do design work for others or just for your own projects ??

Thanks for your feedback...

Actually there isn't any "real" alternative yet but GDI development and Open Source wave may create alternatives in future like GIMP..But still Photoshop is the best I think!

I highly recommend HTML-KIT, as mentioned above. It is a great editor, the only thing I don't like about it is that every new document is in it's own window so it's difficult to switch between them, basically there are no tabs. :)

DESIGN software....

do you all consider html and text editing software - to be in the classification of DESIGN software.... ??

that's a serious question...

I don't know how other people classify it...

I personally - don't consider html or text editing software to be the same thing as DESIGN software...

although the information shared thus far has been interesting....

I would say that it's still designing. I would define any activity that produces a design as 'desiging'. Whether everything is entirely graphical (wysiwyg) or through html coding your working to create an end result which is a design (your site). So, in my book, any software which aid's in the creation of a site could be considered design software.

1) I too have heard great things about GIMP, but have never personally used it.

2) I started out using the educational version of Macromedia Fireworks. It was great to learn on.

3) Now I mostly use Adobe Illustrator. It wasnt to difficult to transition from Fireworks to Illustrator either.

I like NVU. It's a good WYSIWYG open-source editor.

I need to learn that but dont wanna got to some tutor for that .... Is there an ebook or some stuff where I can learn on my own and become a Pro?

I have the software with me.
