Offer made to Democratic National Comittee for domains 2008dnc.org & dems2008.org

3 years ago I followed the democratic election very close as we were very mad at George Bush. I noticed that the homepages for the Democrats (dems2004.org & 2004dnc.org)was very busy with traffic and I was surpised that 2008dnc.org & dems2008.org domains were free. I bought them and thought "what are the democrats doing, this is crazy, these domains should be purchased for the next 50 years"
So, I was contacted yesterday by the Internet director of the Democratic Party. He asked me about a domain the domain dems2008.org if I would sell it. I wrote back and say yes and I have 2008dnc.org too.(democrat national convention (or committee or congress?)) Today he writes back and say yes he is interested and how much do I want for them. I want to sell them for a good price because I do not like George Bush and I think that maybe this convention is the one where a black man or a woman wins the nomination. That is cool. So I want to be fair for them and me.

What do you all think is a good price for these domains? please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I must now write back to him.

Thank you

$XX,000 each at least. Do you know how much pork the DNC is responsible for? Almost as much as the RNC. Also, these sites will be responsible for HUGE donations. They will make their money back quick. Lastly, no matter what, dummy is out of office :kickass:

I would get my taxes back from them pronto. Nice catch! Good Luck!

Wow, does anyone else think that they are worth so much ($XX,000)? What are the ethics issues involved with this? These domains were the official Democratic National Convention 2004 websites. I am not a part of American politics but is it the right thing to do - sell to the Democrats because it was their site before? Maybe a Republican would want to buy it as a funny parity site. I hear that the republicans have more money. But is it a money issue? I want to be fair for both - not looking for kerryedwards stuff. He wants me to tell him the prices and I have absolutely no idea.

Suggestions please

For the Democratic National Committe, your domains could be worth $xx,xxx. I would try asking $20k apiece, and go from there.

We are a capitalist society. Live by the sword die by the sword.

Plus, do you have any idea how much / many taxes our politicians subject us to? It would give me great pleasure to see someone make a handsome buck off of the backs of politicians for a change. Honestly and truly. Don't ruin my fun.

Gouge. But do sell it to the democrats and not the republicans. That would cross the line.

I reiterate my appraisal at $xx,000 ea.

ETHICS?!?!?! in politics???? you gotta be kidding me.
Neither Bush or Kerry have shown any ethical behavior in their money spending war of the last election. They have more than enough to afford a decent junk of change for your domains!
In short, i'd hit them with as much as possible, these domains are easily worth xx.xxx.

You could always donate the proceeds down to a level you feel comfortable with :hehe: I don't think I introduced myself yet. My name is Charity :)

Hi Charity, Guess I can throw the ethics out the window. It seems that most of you are from USA and it doesn't bother you to get as much from the polititions as possible, but this is money that the polititions get in part from the US government. So Is it ethical for me to take so much money from you guys?

Short answer: Yes! Get as much as you can. At least you deserve it through research, instinct and having made the right decision at the right time. It's business, get the most out of it.
Aside, if possible, let them make an offer, so you have an idea what their lowest ballpark is, then take it from there.

Just sell them to me for a much reduced amount. That way you can feel good and I can pursue my government to get back my tax money. I think that is a win/win, don't you?

Someone correct me if I am wrong about American electoral law but I don't think you could 'give' them to them for free. Something about foreign donations... they would have to buy them or go the law route.

So yeah, send them a price you are comfortable with. But if you are really interested in seeing no Republican president you might want to give them a bit of a break on the price so they can spend the rest on overpriced slander commercials.

I wrote this sam letter in another forum because I should answer the man from democrats fast. In the other forum they think that I might be in trademark problems. What do you all think?

if they're asking to buy it from you it should be fine. i'd suggest you try to get a lot too; $xx,xxx isn't much for either political party. you should definitely sell to the dnc though.

nice catches!!

Here is our offer to the DNC

Well guys and gals, I just got finished writing โ€˜the letterโ€™ to the Internet director of the Democratic National Committee with my wife concerning pricing for the domains Dems2008.org and 2008DNS.org I placed the letter, in itโ€™s entirety, in this reply. Some of you will certainly think Iโ€™m crazy.

First I would like to explain a few points. I requested appraisals from you all in 5 different forums and tried to determine a price that was fair. My dealings in the domain sale market have been filled with failures. Take a look at this thread I wrote in 2004 and just found entitled "46 domains for $1.26? Politics suck" http://www.DNF/showthread.php?p=412637

Funny, these two same domains couldnโ€™t sell with 44 others for $1.26 in 2004.

Now some National Democratic guy is interested in my domains and some of you have suggested itโ€™s value at $XX,XXX. Times are changing.
My wife and I discussed each and every one of your answers, from all 5 forums and wrote the following letter:

=================================================

Hello J,

Congratulations, I noticed that you party has chosen Denver as the host city for the convention. I would love to be in that hall as they announce the candidate who will become the next President of America.

I have been contemplating a fair price to ask for the domains with my wife and we find it very difficult. I bought these domains together with about 40 other political domains during the 2004 campaign after being inspired by the kerryedwards.com domain fiasco. I didnโ€™t sell a single domain and let nearly all expire.

I held on to 2008DNC.org and Dems2008.org, I guess, waiting for the day that the Internet Director for the Democratic National Committee in Washington, DC USA would contact me. I have no experience in domain sales and have no idea of the value of these domains.

I wrote in domain sales forums to ask for appraisals of these domains and was surprised at the answers that I received, in general telling me to ask anywhere from $20,000 to $70,000. They claim that this is the price of a few political TV commercials. It seems that they feel politicians have not shown ethical behavior in their money spending and that I should try to get as much as I can, even if it comes from their tax dollars. My wife and I do not believe this is correct.

We believe in the American political system and that the strongest influence in world politics and peace is the American government. We believe that President Bush has tarnished the American image in this world and it will take a very long time and be very difficult to restore.

The coming convention in Denver will make history by having blacks, whites, and woman all running as top candidates. This shows Americaโ€™s fairness to all people regardless of color or gender and is a sign of hope for the world. I anticipate that the Americans will then rally behind the โ€˜chosen oneโ€™ and he or she will lead this world to 8 years of positive actions. I would be proud, in a small way, to participate in this convention.

To tell you the truth, What would I do with these domains if the democrats didnโ€™t buy them? I certainly wouldnโ€™t let them fall into the hands of the republicans and would most probably make a โ€˜pay per clickโ€™ page to retrieve my losses in the domain sales market.

J, If you could please determine a price for these domains I would greatly appreciate it. I would trust the judgment of professionals such as yourself and any other person who may be involved in this decision. I will proudly accept the decision of the US Democratic National Committee as fair, and can assure you a swift transfer of the domains Dems2008.org and 2008DNC.org to the DNC servers.

Thank you, M

As a die hard Republican, I totally disagree with your decision. However, I admire your commitment to your principles. Not many people would have written that letter. Good luck!

Out of these I choose none of them. By the regards of your letter you have faith in something you believe and feel strongly for and do not feel the need to exploit it. Best of luck with your sales.

I would consider you: Fair
