Few questions for everyone. IM planning on a dedicated server And there are a million options out there. So i would like opinions on a few of them.

1)What is a better server processor. AMD , Celeron, Pentium.? And why.

2) What is the bare minimum of ram you would recommend?

3) Plesk or Cpanel? (I know there is a current thread on it ..lol)

4)What is a good price and company to use?

any other additional info you think I should Know would be welcomed as well

Thanks in advance

1. Xeon because of hyperthreading which increases performance
2. 1 GIG
3. Depends, Cpanel generally widely used
4. Go over to WHT, you can find find out the info/reviews on companies offering dedi server under dedicated server forum www.webhostingtalk.com

Also you might want to ask in your research whether the price includes managing the server.

and welcome back :)

1)What is a better server processor. AMD , Celeron, Pentium.? And why.

If you want a little extra power you can get the Xeon, but a standard Pentium 4 is excellent itsself for a web server.

2) What is the bare minimum of ram you would recommend?

Bare minimum, 512. Recommended 1 GIG

3) Plesk or Cpanel? (I know there is a current thread on it ..lol)

CPanel, hands down even though Plesk has nice features.

4)What is a good price and company to use?

Ev1Servers.net cannot be beat right now in relability/price.

hey cool RJ thanks . i was reading another forum and although managed.com has good prices everyone is saying stay away

as with everything in life, and especially hosting, never base your production and web operation on the basis of price.

But if you have to, EV1 comes darn closest to the price/reliability ratio.

Yep, no doubt. With 100,000 servers there will be complaints from some folks. Support response time was always the biggest issue with them, but I must say things have improved quite a bit over the last year IMHO. I've had at least one server with EV1 for two and half years, and three now.

I have to agree with everything RJ said. I have my current server from ev1 and got it when they were still rackshack back in September.
